You need to either register for the full event, or buy a Sat. only ticket. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Theres even cars being shipped in from the far east for this event. Full reg or Sat only ticket allows you to park in corral area, and also participate in all the Sat. activities. Promotor says theyre spending 1/4 mil on the Sat function alone. Yep expensive, but would be neat to go.
Group,

I'm gonna pass on this one.

Once I looked at how the "events" were priced, located and that the general public is excluded, I started to get that "stuffy" feeling.

HOWEVER!!

On Sunday, June 13th, the Sacramento Shriner's are holding a concours celebrating the 50th Anniv. Speedster AND there will be other auto types and cool wooden boats and all kinds of stuff.

Price to view I believe is $10.

Too late to enter (was May 10, 2004) but might be worth the drive.

Crappy PDF web site ...shrinersconcours.com...download the info.

Thanks to Eddie Janis for alerting me to this one in my own backyard!!

Brian.

Everything I'm hearing, this is a once in a lifetime event. My Dad will have his D in the show. Last we heard there is over 400 cars entered in the event. It is expensive, no doubt about it, but there will be at least one freebie. Saturday morning, there will be a cruise through the streets of Monterey, following the path of the old street course. Then we will be headed to Laguna Seca to take parade laps around the race track, then back to the grounds for the actual show. Should be a real cool sight.

Adios
Aaron
I guess at least one person is not going to be there. Sorry, you will miss a lot of great cars and of course there is always Monterey. I'm just not that intimidated by "original" I'm sure everything in R. Beach is original. Aside from that if anyone is going and is interested in joining up let me know.
Steve,
If I had a hang-up about "original" I never would have bought
my speedster, and I have always loved Porsche's in general,
What I don't like is most people...Especially pricks driving
Porsche's, and as much as I hate to stereotype people
(actually I love to) most porsche owners are assholes....
Not all of course...But most...
If I would have bought my car new, The word Porsche would not
be on it, because It is not a Porsche, and I at least understand that which some on this site don't.
I am a car guy, I appreciate all cars, even Edsels and Fiats...
I am a beach guy, "No worries" "everything is cool"
I don't take kindly to attitudes, except my own of course....
I Have many Friends along the coast of California, especially
Santa Cruz, And I have been to The Concours At pebble Beach
many times, I still have the original tickets from the early 80's
showing 10.00 entry fee...(can only imagine what it cost now)
In fact for the last 15 years I have Judged concours events
throughout Southern California...I have been on the track at
Laguna Seca, during the Historic Races in past years also.
All this said, I still can't think of a reason why I would drive
350 miles to an event where we are looked down on, because of
what we drive, even if the promoter needs the bucks and "allows"
us in.....I'm not quite that needy, that I need to be excepted...

All I need is a reason to jump in my car, I'm always ready for a
run, unlike some who say lets go, and never show up, with some
lame excuse, and I've heard many........but thats OK too..
Everybody is different and I don't put them down for that, I
just let them be....
You have fun at the Anniversary and take lots-a-pic's........
Don't worry about me, I'll find something to do...........

Vince,
Talking about original versus un-original or real versus unreal, I recently had an experience with my new car at the GOOD GUYS STREET ROD SHOW in Del Mar April first. I knew one of the organizers of the show and told him about my car and he said I should enter but I was reluctant because it was not a "real" hot rod. I sent him a few pix and not only was I invited but was asked to show my car indoors with all of the high dollar cars like Boyd Coddington and the like. For three days people flocked to the car and were so glad to see something other than a 32 Ford and for the most part were very friendly and complimentary. There were however a few Porsche "purists" who went out of their way to let me know that my car was not "real" and they had a real one at home. What a bunch of A-HOLES! I drove real 356 coupes for the last 15 years and after having this car for only two months I would never go back. These cars are better built, handle better, are easier to maintain, and wont RUST. Why is it that 98% of all 32 Fords are fibreglass and they are accepted but our cars are not? It must be the A-HOLE factor!
Dave
I'm a car guy, I'll talk to you if you have a bone stock Nash Metropolitan or a Moped.........but wave at me driving a porsche and I'll ignore the shit out of you...........
Porsche owners don't even like each other...911 guys don't like
Boxter guys who don't like 914 guys etc....
Corvette guys are not as bad but still have a tude...
Not quite as bad are the Harley guys, who don't even like Sportster
guys....but they will wave to each other all day...I Ignore them too when I ride my bike...As soon as you show me an attitude, You've lost me...Like I need your attitude....
In all my years though, the Porsche guys have been the worse,
I think subconsciencely that could be the reason I never bought one,
I had/have the money for a nice used one...I think I'll stick with
Glass....I have 2 aquaintances who have real speedsters, both are
afraid to drive them, one can't afford to insure his, the other
is afraid of thieft and accidents...
David, yours is tits............Thats a good thing...
