Anyone running these-came off a 74 I believe. Running 4 wheel disc on a 69 IRS pan on a standard CMC with 185's.

Would like to see some pics if they are out there. With a Ivory colored car I'm wondering the color possibilities are besides after blasting them clean. Was thinking chrome paint with black cap and lug nut caps.

The cheap 4 lug 8 slotted chromes that are rusted and pitted have to go.

Thanks,

I would have the rusty chrome wheels sand blasted and either primed & painted silver or powdercoated "chrome".  I think they look more authentic without saying "I'm a replica".  The 914 Sport wheels look too modern for a classic body style.  There should be a good market to sell them to VW crowd though (CraigsList). I tried to envision them painted silver with the inset parts painted satin black like a Fuchs but not sure how that would come off.

The 914 Steel wheels paint up easy.  I did the 911 look with satin black in center, bright silver on outside edges and it looked good. I think it made the car look more like a "real" Porsche.  On my CMC speedster project, found an old set of what is called Rivera wheels, often also used on the 914's, after market ones, from EMPI and others.  I painted these satin black in the center and left the polished aluminum on the outer rim. These were black with alum. square sections and the polished outer rim, but with corrosion from years someone had them outside, I was able to restore the polished outer rims, like on the old Porsche 911 and sanded and painted the inside of the wheels and center section satin black, which is somewhat of a semi-flat black.  Then used the EMPI screw in wheel studs with chrome lug nuts and chrome plastic center caps.  Looks good for $200 spent on the wheel.  I had the chrome lug nuts from past VW projects.  About as cheap as I can get for somewhat an old Porsche 911 look.  With the open flat spokes, one can see the disc brake parts, for more details.  I have disc on front, drums on rear. I left the calipers the color them came with , from the manufacturer as hard to get paint to stay on them, even the disc brake paint, not very good. On the drums, as you can see them, through the flat spokes, I will paint them with high heat Red. Car body is Red.  So, good contrast with black, chrome and red painted drums on the wheel selection.  I wanted Chrome four bolt Stock VW wheels, but cannot find them.  Having wheels chrome plated is out of my budget.

Thanks for the information about the chrome used in power coating. There is a really good place, close to me, which does my power coating and I never would have thought of asking about the chrome finish.

They power coat my sheet metal, used on the air cooled engines . They used to do what is called " high heat" power coating on headers, but the place stopped that process. I liked it as it was half the price of ceramic coating an exhaust system, not as shiny, but lasted just as long. I also use power coating on roll bars and have done bumpers and wheels in the past, on an old VW Bus, but never considered the chrome. Great suggestion and pictures.
