Every Saturday morning from about 6:45 am - 8:30 am, several local classic & exotic car enthusiasts show up at the Starbuck's Coffee in Crystal Cove Promenade in Laguna Beach CA to do a little "Sunday" driving on Saturdays. You never know what you'll see there, $300K Ferraris and Lamborghinis, Cobras, Mustangs, Austin-Healeys, VW Buses, a Speedster or two, American Muscle cars. But the hits of this Saturday's meet were a) a midnight blue Concours 1949 Chrysler Town & Country with beautiful wood on the sides and an engine that purred like a kitten. What a monster car that was size-wise...and b) a brand new yellow Porsche Carerra GT from Beverly Hills. The buzz was that it had 605 bhp and cost $650K. WOW! Just a couple of normal guys driving it. We ran into them a few minutes later at the 76 Gas station in Corona Del Mar. Sorry, but I didn't have my camera...we were just taking our out-of-town guests over to Crystal Cove for coffee at Pacific Whey and to see the cars.

The word is that the "coolest" mostly 50s and older cars, usually leave Crystal Cove early after showing up for a little bit, and go to the other Starbuck's at Crown Valley and Alicia Parkway in Laguna Niguel (due south on Pacific Coast Hwy through Laguna Beach). I saw an old 1957 BMW Isetta two-toned blue and white, two weeks ago making the trek. I used to have one of those in high school...I never knew where the guys were going to hide it from me. They'd get a kick out of picking it up and putting it on the sidewalk between the telephone pole and the guy wire...then I'd get a parking ticket for parking on the sidewalk! Those were the days.

It would require an early start, but you guys may want to include a stop to see these cars when you schedule your Laguna run. It's definitely worth it and it's free. I also saw banners for the upcoming Coastline Car Classic on Sept. 19, although I don't know what that's about.

Hey, they were handing out fliers at the Saturday car meet about a bill currently on the Governor's desk to REPEAL the 30-year smog emissions exemption!!!! Has anybody heard anything about this????

I'm still loving my Speedster....still trying to think of a nickname for her.
