Yeah. Who'd want a stripped down, mid-engined, 2.5L/300-ish H/P, Boxster-Lite, with shorter overhangs front and back, and several hundred lbs less curb weight (but still 2600 lbs) than a Boxster?

IMHO, Porsche REALLY needs a sports car that is elemental, and not bloated with PDK, Sport-Chrono, etc. For those of you not paying attention-- the 991 GT3 is not available with a manual transmission, nor is the turbo. Yeah-- the PDK is faster, etc., etc.-- but if I wanted the car to drive itself, I'd just hire a cab to haul me around.
I'd roll it, and never look back. It'll never come here-- and if it does, every single one will be larded up and pimped out like all new Porsche product is. We're a long way from the "less is more" ethos.
2L Boxster engine with 286 horse power! I like it - but then I liked the 914 enough to buy one new in 1972 for $4500. Gulp, 40000 Euros is $54k USD.

Seeing as I can't justify $945k+ for the new 918 - this is a cheap alternative. A BMW Z4 is $49k w/4 cylinder engine - and you see lots of them on the road.

My painter purchased a second hand one with low miles - about $55,000 - and has detailed it within an inche of its life adding a sports exhaust etc.
it is a really neat car and I was surprised at its comfort, finish and handling.

As will the new Speedster. The Boxster was originally the "affordable" Porsche. It doesn't take them long to raise prices.
The new Porsche Macan starts at around 50k and with options can go as high as 100k! 
So much for an 'affordable' SUV from Porsche.
