Jim, I didn't see the post, so I thought I would just send the link as a reminder. Hope to see you and Will there. We are camped out in the motor home in space 552, above and west of the corkscrew. I am not familiar with the exact layout of the place, but I just got the space yesterday and beggars can't be choosers. Should work out fine. Cell phone is 707-292-7443. We will be down there sometime Thursday afternoon. We are bringing the 550, but don't plan to park in the Porsche Corral; besides, the tickets to the Corral were all gone. I sure hope we can hook up with you guys again. Some guys on Spyderclub are coming in from Australia. I haven't been to Laguna Seca for a couple of years, and this event is one I wouldn't miss for anything.

Angela, I also hope to connect with you and Steve. The last time Kinau and I saw you was at the meet in Paso Robles in 2005, where you fixed Karl Dempwolf's car. I think you brought a pink bicycle on top of your Mazda. Very cool!

Barry
Actually, I didn't fix Karl's car at all. I knew what was wrong, but didn't know why it was doing it (intermittent low/no spark). Larry figured it out.

Steve is still in Afghanistan. We talked about this event this morning. He gave me the thumbs up. Well, I didn't ask about driving his car down, sort of forgot that part - LOL! I'll leave the pink bike at home for this trip.

So I think I'll go and bring our son, Ryan. And I'll take Steve's Cabby. This pic is on the drive down to Morro Bay this spring.

Funny thing about Karl's car. I figured out that it was intermittently low/no spark but didn't know why. Larry diagnosed it over the phone. One more reason to love Larry.

Thought you guys might like this picture. It's Barry's uber cool wife Kinau. This is one of my favorite pictures as it really expresses her joy of life and the spyder in particular. This was shot on the way down to the Paso event a couple of years ago.

There is something else: all day Sunday 10-5 at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, on Oct 16th. It is a charity event for lung cancer & is expensive for tickets. But they are advertising 150 featured historically significant cars from the 1950-65, including special honored guests and celebrities.

They list Gmunds, Glockers, 550s, 550As, 718s, 718/2s, 804s, 904s, and 356 Coupes, Speedsters and Convertible Ds. In addition there will be Elva Porsches, Dreikantschabers, and some special bodied cars. Includes feasting on local gourmet specialties, while sipping heavenly wines from 30 leading wineries.

Ticket Price ($400) includes the following:
Parking
Commemorative book and poster
Complimentary local gourmet specialties
Wine provided by the Napa Valley Vintners Association
*Tax ID 20-4417327 The fair market value of each ticket is $50. All contributions exceeding this value ($350 per ticket) are tax-deductible. The value of the day and the contribution to the cause is priceless.
Angela, thanks for the special words of praise. Kinau is still uber-cool and loves the Spyder. The picture was taken with Kinau lounging on the since-sold Beck (We now have a Vintage) in 2005 or 2006. She would love to drive it, but her feet can't reach the pedals. We plan to attend the Rennsport next week and will take the car with us. We plan to stay in space 552 at the track...somewhere above the paddock on the hill. We would love to see you and Steve there. Call us at 707-292-7443 if you have time to visit.

Rob, the hotel/motel accommodations will be sky-high price-wise. I would try to look for something in Morgan Hill or Salinas. Morgan Hill is about 45 minutes from the track. Even San Jose might be worth a look. There will be several thousand people trying to find a place to stay, and the local lodging prices always escalate as a result. My wife and I plan to take our small motor home to the track so that we don't have to go back and forth to get into and out of the track area, and so as to provide parking for our 550 next to the motor home. Luckily, we live around 3 hours away from the track and are fairly familiar with the Laguna Seca setup.

It seemed to me that there was a Marriott near Salinas that had nice rooms, but that it will more than likely be filled up at this time. I wish I could offer some better information. Maybe Will or Jim have some good advice. I will be wearing my Spyderclub T-shirt. If you see me, please tap me on the shoulder and introduce yourself. I usually hang out at the "corkscrew."

I will post some photos when I get home. My wife and I are still driving around CA. But Rennsport was in my opinion, unbelievable and incomprehensible. There were somewhere around a 1000 Porsches in the Corral and over 350 Porsche race cars racing. The factory sent over a whole bunch of race cars from their museum. One could walk through the paddock and get up close an personal with each and every car. I think I heard there were 23 Speedsters racing, a bunch of 356 coupes, Abarths, Spyders, RS-60s, etc. Although I didn't see Seinfeld, he was there with some of his cars. A bunch of racers from the past were there signing autographs. In addition it was sunny and warm.
Just read on Autoweek.com:
