I once made some Porsche scripts for a friend with a pre-a 356 and I am going to make me a set for my CMC. I was wondering if there would be any interest if I were to make these available? I am not a shop or store, just an engineer with cnc skills that is a member of this site and CMC owner.

The Porsche script is nicer than any of the reproduction units I have seen, they have all the pins in the factory locations and the best part is, I can make them as long as I want for the fiberglass bodies. Shown the the Porsche script and a 1500 and 1500 Super, it can easily be changed to 1600 and 1600 Super. Since I am going with a T4 motor (103mmX71mm) one of these days, I was going to make me a 2400 Super.

I am thinking of making the Speedster logo for the side and also the Porsche logo for the dash too. They would be machined (not cast) out of 6061-T6 aluminum plate, fitted with small stainless steel studs so that either clips or nuts can be used on the back to hold it in place. They would be polished aluminum and the user can chrome or gold plate them unless there is a huge interest and have a lot to send to the plating company.

As of right now, I only have the Porsche scripts and 1500 scripts draw and programmed. Is there any interest?

Mark:

I have been looking for a suitable license plate frame for my Speedster. It would seem your skills could be used to cut a frame and the SPEEDSTER script at the top or bottom of a frame. There don't seem to be any available in the after market and the using the term SPEEDSTER may reduce trade mark hassles. Even better you could have "356" across the top and the distinctive SPEEDSTER script across the bottom.

I have been wanting to make a license plate frame as well, what are your thoughts on how it would look? As far as the scripts, I will try and make a complete set, but the drawings take the longest outside of the cnc setup. What I will do is, I will post pics on the progress, either way I will need to make at least my own. I have the speedster and dash porsche scripts on my CMC to work off of. I will keep you posted on my progress and if there are any other ideas, just let me know. Check out www.vsvw.com it is an old website a partner and I started that we no longer do. I used to do old VW stuff and my past vw's are on the site.
Licence Plate Frame, my preference would be brass or gold anodized to match my scripts. I think it would look nice to have "356" in quotes centered at the top of the frame and the distinctive SPEEDSTER script centered accross the bottom of the frame.

The scripts could either be cut through (open) or have a bumpy background, like the dash Porsche script. If it had the background had the textured surface, bumpy backgound, those who want to could paint the bumpy part so the lettering stands out. Using a metal that can be either chromed or anodized would allow you to make them out of one metal then finish them as ordered.
Gordon,

Thanks- I'll do that, but first I've got to get my carb set from AJ Sims. I'm going to go with his bigger custom 46mm throttle bodies, which may affect the base opening, but I'd like cast aluminum filters similar to CBs IDF air-cleaners. Air cleaners have really been my only hold-up on a Kad kit- I HATE the EMPI chrome filters, but really want to try AJ's highly modified carbs, manifolds, and heads on the 2110 I will have built this winter.
Stan:

Dennis O'Brien makes a whole lot of different cast aluminum stuff for the street rod crowd, from air cleaner covers, valve covers, hub caps (for Jag and/or Ford wire rims) gas filter covers, oil filter covers and has recently gotten into belt buckles. He already has a 4 1/2" X 7" cleaner cover that mght work if the base were modified for the Kadron's.

He got started in the car club plaque business and now is the world's largest suplier of custom club plaques, all cast aluminum and with whatever logo you choose, along with a nice line of other cast and polished parts. The same can be done for smaller air cleaners (like the CB versions) but we could get "Speedster" or something else on it.

You can check his (minimalist) web site at

www.obrientruckers.com/

You can also do a Google image search on "O'Brien Truckers" and see some of his stuff (Holman-Moody carry it, as does Billy Gibbons).

I'll send him an email for a ball park price estimate (we used to work together in our "real" jobs).

Thanks for the kudos and ideas, I like the license plate frame idea too, also the kadron air cleaner thought. I have kadrons on my cmc and the round air cleaners are junk. I have access to any shape K&N elements so all I would need to do is fit the element to my top and base. I would like the base to bolt on to the carb, not use that stupid long stud or hose clamps. I think it is possible. Remember, I am not a shop just a member and I do plan on donating soon, I am still recovering from buying the cmc and fixing up another car, but I will soon. Maybe I can offer some stuff to Theron and he can sell it through here. I have places that can do big runs on something if they become popular enough so the prices will be lower. I guess it is just a matter of making what everyone wants but first I need to see if I can make it cost effective. Thanks for the ideas and feel free to send me more through here or email. -Mark
