Dusty - If you are going to run hubcaps, just see if you can find some 10 slot wheels (See Lanes picture). That's what Eddie Janis did. I think he got the last set of chrome 10 slots from Carey Hines and he still runs baby moons. If that is the look you want, it would be the most cost effective way to go. If you plan to run the wheels without hubcaps, showing the five bolt pattern, you have to change rotors, maybe spindle and in the rear, you have to change drums. I assume you already have disc brakes on the front. Now, I did all that because I wanted the racey look, but like I said, I changed out perfectly good disc and drum brakes to get the look. As you can see, both Ernie and I are running drum skins.
Wow! Too many good choices. I am really only looking for the 10 slot look with my existing nipple hub caps. I will call Carey and see what is available. Might have to wait for awhile as we are off to North Carolina for the next 10 days. Thanks to all for the input. I may be back with more questions whe I return to Colorado.

Happy Trails,
Dusty

...Anyone knows the difference between stock VW 10-slot, 5-bolt wheels, and the Porsche ones?

I've seen some old VW wheels with 10-slot, but the slots looks more rectangular in shape, but I had nothing to compare them, and took no photos.

Anyone familiar with those wheels?
Pedro: Here is a picture of a couple stock VW rims. Regarding the wide-5 version, notice it has oval shaped holes. The Porsche wheels have more of a "D" shaped hole. Fortunately for you, the Porsche look-a-likes are a lot easier and less expensive to come by than the original VW wheels. The after market (Mangles, etc.) is based on the Porsche style.

I agree - however, they guy that's helping me build the speedy has an original VW set - which need to be enlarged, but will cost me less money than the 356 replicas.

Also note that, here (locally), I can only find those cheap-looking chromed wheels (which I heard doesn't last long chromed) - and I wanted them non-chromed, no-hubcaps...

Thing is - would they look too bad?!
Since I'm spending money, should I just find better wheels here (Europe)?

Thanks!
