Position of Steering wheel

Here is a link to a guy who can make custom hub adapter for you - he may already have the one you want. Looks like you have a Derrington style wheel not a Nardi. You will have to scrutinize your hole pattern. 9 hole adapters are a slippery slope.

John,  there's nothing inside of the spacer.  No switches or electronics or wires (except for the wire going to the horn button).  When you get the horn button off and look inside, all you'll find is the steering shaft and a BIG honkin' nut holding the hub spacer on.  

If you pop off the horn button you can easily look in and see what's there. Most likely, you'll need to have the steering wheel attached to the hub for leverage to get the shaft nut loosened, then remove the steering wheel and then remove the hub.

Besides custom made, that site may already sell a shorter hub (for use with dished steering wheels vs flat). You could also have someone modify your existing adapter, cut a section out of the middle and weld back together.

But as you've already mentioned, shortening the hub adapter could cause finger clearance issues both with the turn signal lever and dash eyebrow. Besides being a continual annoyance, that can be a safety hazard if your hand gets stopped in the middle of a turn. So depending on your column, you'll have to move the lever pod or bend the arm to get clearance back. Removing the dash eyebrow is an option if that's a problem, but you'd have to redo the dash to make it look finished again.

Or maybe a smaller diameter steering wheel.

I have a Nardi Cobra wheel on the FIA. When I first got it the hub was about 5'' deep...put the wheel way to close for comfort. I'm using a made for Cobra column, I contacted the supplier and they sent me a 2 1/2" hub adapter with the exchange of the longer hub. My fingers are close to the turn signal lever but I've never had an issue with it...and my arms are near horizontal now when gripping the steering wheel.

No 'belly rub" issues...don't have one on the Speedster either with a long hub

We were tired of using the cheap looking, super long, steering wheel hubs so we cam up with our own design. We shortened them down to 2.5" long. The bolt pattern fits all Nardi and Momo bolt patterns so it is universal. Spline insert and turn signal cancellation is included. Stainless Steel 316 hardware and steering wheel hardware is included. Steering wheel nut is included. Simply take this out of the box and bolt it on using the supplied steering wheel nut.

I'll be in touch with you on this.  I've got to get some pictures taken to be certain it's going to work but it certainly looks like this would solve my belly challenging steering wheel position and look better doing it.  Pictures to follow.
