pre-purchase porsche 356 advice

Hi all,

I went to the bank today to see about financing for an old $20K porsche 911 and the lady who was taking care of me told me her husband died last year and left her with a half built porsche 356 kit car that he put $25K into but hadn't finished. She said she would sell the whole thing for $5K, just to get rid of it. She says there is a brand new Acura engine, never been started, probably at least 5 years old. A frame. A windshield. Very expensive wheels (?)...and a 'whole bunch of other stuff' .... who knows what that means. Although I hadn't planned on a kit car, I am going to take a look at it tonight and take photos to find out if it's value. Does anyone have advice as to what to look for / look out for etc....

Take pics of everything and post them here, there is plenty of knowledge here to help you. Once the folks here see what you have they can answer all your questions. An Acura engine? That is something that is a little perplexing but the woman may not have all her info correct.

What is her name and address?? Cabanaboy ~ Let's have a peek!!

Maybe the guy was going for the mid-engined thing and is using an Acura drivetrain. That could be REAL fun! Maybe those expensive wheels are deep 6 Fuchs? Who knows! Go check it out!

Much to my dismay shortly after arriving I discovered that what the lady meant to say was 956 ...not 356.....a freaking le mans cars for petes sake! I took some pictures anyway and if I can find someone who is interested in the parts I may buy anyway to make some $$$. The wheels look pretty beat up but I get the feeling they probably were use in a le mans race. She was adamant that those were really expensive.

Anyone want a 956 frame, wheels, brand new 956 windshield, un-used Acura engine? If not can anyone suggest where to start looking for someone who might? I scoured the internet last night and couldn't find any 956 specific webrings and am not sure what class any racers of this type of car might be in. Any suggestions?

I'll take that Kennedy 2500 pound pressure plate, flywheel and adapter kit. I could also REALLY use those finned BBS cooling "fans." I have a set of VW four lug Enkei wheels that they'll fit perfectly.

Those are VERY expensive wheels...

I could be wrong (what are the odds?) but those look like 3-piece BBS wheels - pretty expensive for that period!

Notice that the wheels do not have lug holes. They were secured to the axle with ONE BF Nut. VERY EXPENSIVE WHEELS.

If anyone is interested in those wheels, I have access to a set of BBS grand prix wheels and they are exactly like those in the photo. The guy that has them was going to put them one a project racer that he will never finish. They also have knock-off hubs.

That's what I see too. One of the boxes contains the fastening nut. Those wheels with the air extractors and the nuts... $$$.

Thanks a lot for looking everybody....this is really helping me determine what I've got here. In case anyone is wondering I have been updating the page with some of the informations I've been gathering and also gave credit. (if you want me to take your name off no problem). As I learn more I will post more info on the page.

I put up a form in case anyone has any questions or can help me determine what some of this stuff is.

I am planning to go back and take more detailed photos soon.
