Got the engine out and have dialed my latest acquisition all in.  Now for the header.  I am going with the nerf bar look as  I had on VW when I was kid in Cali a half century ago.  It had a stinger.  WOndering if anyone here has sucessfully installed one like this.

Also what are the largest tires anyone has gotten on the rear of a wide body FiberFab?  235.45.15?

It should work. That said,I understand trying to relive your youth, but you may find that the sound of a stinger gets old fast (we forget how loud they were), and with the thing sticking out so far, there's the possibility of someone walking into it while it's hot and hurting themselves. A lot of guys are using sidewinder systems; http://vwparts.aircooled.net/A...-swht112-swht158.htm  they're properly constructed (look at the comparison pics on the page of a cheaper made collector), made specifically for our cars (check the "vehicle application" drop) and there's a couple of different muffler/tailpipe choices, including a center exit. They're not cheap, but you do get what you pay for...

The thing you don't mention is engine size and specs; 1 5/8" tubing is pretty big, and unless the motor is big enough to use it, the power under the curve (everywhere but peak) will suffer, and this will affect mileage as well. For example, with a 6,000 rpm redline you'd have to be running at least 2100 cc's to properly utilize tubing that large. Anything smaller and you're better off (for best all around power and mileage) to use a 1 1/2" header.

Can't help with tire sizes. Al

yeah, I agree with ALB, that stinger is going to be loud.  Now it is possible to put a baffle style tip on the stinger like this;  http://www.summitracing.com/pa...p-449-2518/overview/   I used a Supertrapp on my 72 VW Type 1 engine with a stinger exhaust for drag racing, and it did not reduce engine power or diminish my 1/4 mile times - but it did lower the exhaust noise from my stinger.

Bottom line - the noise might sound cool at first, but when you are riding around town and you can't hear your passenger or your radio, then the noise factor begins to be somewhat of an irritant.

that dosent make them any good.I hope they are.(both made in the usa and good quality) the 4 sets I sent back were also made in the usa. I have seen the china stainless header, it needs work, but it is what it is.

my header on my bug came from scat,it has the best collector I have ever seen on any vw stuff, I was told the header  was made by kymco, looked on the kymco site and thiers looks exzactly the same. then I was told kymco dosent make thier own headers.so now it's a third party header. YOU SURE THE DECADE IS AMERICAN MADE??or made by decade??or just rebox.these days there seems to be a lot of ways to missplace the origin of stuff.

I dont think it will fit a speedster. it's a 1 5/8" baja with turn down collector.but if you didnt mind it going up through the grill it would be kinda neet, defanitly different. I had trimils that went back bugpacks that went back.this was is very nice header(I did have to heat&move #3&1 tubes a bit for valve cover clearance with taller valve covers(c channel type). but it was about 4x's the quality other than that.(&the ceramic was ****, but I havent seen a ceramic off the shelf header that had a good ceramic coating job)

tiger did the sidewinder for the 912 I did almost 2 years ago with a 2387cc motor, he said it was for the 912 carwitch I would think would be very close to the 356 even though these arnt, but are. he had to redo the muffler as I recall somethen wasent quite right that the owner didnt like.(other than it being loud) but the header fit up nicely.I dont knoe if it is the same as a bug or not or if it was just supposed to be the mufflersystem was supposed to be in the right location for the 912.either way tiger is easy to work with& does great work.Even have tigers sidewinder on the guys bus too.

so who has what std off the shelf merged bug header on thier 356? I was looking at scats site &they have a 1 3/4" merged for a good price, not stainless but it's a good price& less than the one on my bug now.

Mark - do you have a Bug or a 356?  Just curious.  I always see you say on your Bug...

both, and a full tube chassie 4 link strut pro built drag car thats not finished yet, you want it?2 seater doubble funny car cage, one trick ride v8 power of corse,or I reckon any power could go in it, but I have it set up for my 572 800+hp big block(very mild motor)and it's also set up for my 618 hp small block mopar.witch isant realy mild, well to me it is but to most it would skeer the **** out of. I cant finish the racecar due to health(thus the reason for lawnmower powered cars now) I do still race,we were in valdosta(south georiga motorsports park) this weekend testing with the new promod.I dont drive any more, just brains, work on the car,&starting line, this new car & 200ci biger motor (833ci)are taking a bit of a learning curve& partners with hard heads dont help any either.
