I've seen several posts on the early appearance of rust on the Speedster wheels. Obviously a poor chrome job. I wonder which is a better preventitive measure, heavy applications of a good wax or a clear coat spray. Maybe both. I had some cheap trim rings that rusted very early on a Volvo I had some years ago. I cleaned them up the best I could and then sprayed them with clear coat. That was fine for about 6 months but then it started flaking off, leaving kind of a mottled messy looking ring. Of course this was in the winter salt belt
which I'm no longer in. Maybe the clear would last longer in a more favorable climate. Bruce Williams

There is a product made by the people who make POR-15, aircooled.net sells it and stands behind it. Apply and forget about it.

I would prefer to pay another five or even ten bucks per wheel and have it chromed the way it should be. Ever gone to a junkyard and looked at the chrome of four decades old American cars? You can actually watch these Brazilian rims rust on a rainy day. I am haivng mine stripped and powder coated.

You gentlemen are overlooking something - Really nice chrome on a Mangel wheel will not make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. if you have the wide-five mounting pattern look for a set of authentic 356A/B wheels.

The Mangel wheels leave something to be desired in consistency of construction backspace, concentricity) and quality of finish. Henry at IM prefers to use anything but Mangels (Fuchs, Mahle, Bivens).
It is about budget, George, something congress doesn't have a clue about. Maybe all I can justify now is el cheapo rims. Let's not assume we can all afford to have only the best components, though I raise my can of Pabst to you, bro.

I am going to strip the chrome off my rims and have them powder coated silver like the Carrera GT's were, thought certainly it won't take a decerning eye to notice my four lug rims, but I will like the look.

For a rust preventor for third world chrome jobs go to aircooled.net, under category click on Chemical Paints & Lubs, click on POR-15 Restmotive Products, then look for GLISTEN PC, part # POR0023
