My gas cap key and house key have made scratches on my dash. I'm going for a color change this winter and, following that, would like to protect the paint. The obvious solution is just use the ignition key by itself, but I don't want to do that. Does anyone know of a protective film that I could adhere below my ignition to prevent scratches? This would probably be a perishable piece that would have to be replaced periodically.

Yup. Griot's Garage has a protective film similar to the clear bra stuff in the form of a roll of tape that is available in several widths. I used it on top of the doors to prevent wear from the side windows, as well as under the ignition switch. It's almost invisible and has prevented any scratches. As for the "perishable" part, I've had it for several years and it still looks good. I used the 2" width and think it is exactly what you need.
