Thanks for the input. Right now I have Solex 40. To me the car runs good the only thing is that I smell lots of gas from the car. I had them jetted and the mechanic said he recommends the carbs be change for new ones. He is charging 650 for parts and 150 labor. This sound a bit much to me but I am not sure what the averge price for this type of job is. but the 150 for the carbs sound good to me. What do you think
George, It sure seems that way what do you think this type of job should run me. The is my first VW powered car and I am new to all this. I am trying to look for a good place that will not take advantage of me and give me good service. I am also intrested in learning more about my engine and how to maintain it. All I know is that I have a 1776 with dual solex 40s with a Bernie Bergmann 911 Fan kit.
AJ,

See if there is a Vw club in your area, they could probably recommend a good shop, or else find a parts place that carries Vw parts and ask them for suggestions. Chances are you have plenty of carb for your needs.

Maybe someone can chime in. Who is the Kadron guru out in California? He is good plus reasonable, no one knows Kadrons better.
Call AJ Sims for info on your 40 Kads. He is the guru and can get you set up right w/o buying Webers. His number is 714-297-6750 and web is www.lowbugget.com AJ is a good guy and will fix you up. I had some of AJ's Kads, sold them to Mike Devane... they ran great on the other 1776 I ran. I built a little stronger 1776 and changed from ICTs to 40 IDFs, they run great also.

Because you're using a Bernie Bergman 911 shroud you will need a good center linkage if you buy the Webers. I know, because I'm also using a BB 911 shroud. I purchased a cheap Bug Pack center linkage but it was a piece of crap, to put it bluntly. Very, very hard to set up properly. I ended up purchasing a CSP center pull linkage and it looks very well made. I'm just about ready to bolt it to my carbs, so I can't say how well it will fit.
