Now, if I was to experience a fire, say an engine fire (for the sake of illustration)... what would be a reasonable amount to expect, given my appraised evaluation, and my recent (unsuccessful) bid to sell at the stated value?"

Ed- Just so you know- Real Speedsters aren't in the upwards of 6 figures range, they're past the threshold and well into the middle of it. Wasn't there a thread on here a little while ago (2? 3? 4? months) about a pushrod engine'd car selling for $290-something,000 at auction? It was a very nicely restored car, mind you, but almost 300 grand for a 75hp Speedster? $100,000 probably only buys a ratty "driver" (if there is such a thing these days). I think it was here recently that someone said the vin alone is worth 40 or $50,000, and with all the reproduction sheet metal available now you could just about build around it. And a factory 4cam speedster with it's by the numbers engine? The engine alone is worth $200,000, so with it's matching car (and all the 4cam specific stuff it came with) a nice example has to go for well over a half, or even 3/4 mil. And if it has any kind of documented racing history it will sell for more. Any one know what the most recent nice 4cam Speedster sold for?

My apologies for the rant, but the world truly has gone nuts. Cars are meant to be driven, and I think its' sacreligous(sp?) when (for whatever "reason")  they're relegated to the garage, trailer and show field. And now 911's are going the same way. Ooooh, stop now I better...
