You know......There are a lot of real and replica 356's and 550's running around these days. You still turn a lot of heads whenever you take our cars out, but at least there are usually some in your area.

Imagine taking that 550 coupe out in the early 1950's when there was NOTHING out there like it (not to mention that it was only a little bit bigger than a pedal car).

And, once the revs were up, that thing could MOVE!

Wow.

Would have loved to live back in that era.

Wait a minute......I DID live back in that era. Just wish I could remember it!
I'll second that -- thanks for cool article. But I do have one question. At what point in a rebuild can you safely say that this is not the original car anymore, even though it may have a spar, or rivet or instrument, or some small piece somewhere that really is from the original car. The latter pics of the resto shown here says to me there is almost nothing left of the original car. Granted, the resto is supreme, and done in every way like the orginal, I'd perfectly well suppose, but still, this is a 1955 550 style car that was built with new parts in 2011, or something damn close to that. Sorta like my 2007 JPS SPeedster. Don't misunderstand -- the result is stunning, I'd love to see it.
