Funny! You know I'm a fireman, right?
The front mount will be for a period 1950s piece. The TRAILER will be for my 200 gallons of extinguishing agent.
Kidding. The jury's still out, but I'm probably going to go with rear-mounted Metal-X extinguishers with a remote pull ring in the back firewall.
And, rain, sleet, snow or hail, I WILL make the show.
Thanks for looking!
I'm not sure yet exactly where I'm going to put the bottles, but I think the arms connecting the firewall to the engine plate are as likely as anywhere for the mounts. I'm going to use a hood-pull cable for the remote pull ring and I'll be routing it through brake lines to keep it from accidentally discharging.
Here are some updated photos. There are another 20 or so in the folder as of today (April 9).

Cory, Loooookin really really great! I'm just imagining all the cool little touches your putting in. Like I said, wish I could make Carlisle to see in person.

Your headlight pics answered my question too! The "chrome" looks more like Zinc/Silver than what the paint cap suggests. But it looks great non the less. I just hope that the paint won't eventually yellow with age.

You'll get that sleep eventually - you probably wouldn't be able to sleep till she's done anyway...

Cheers!
Wouldn't you rather have the outlets lower than the "floor" of your fuel cell? Seems to be high in the rear . . . is there a water collector outlet/drain and petcock in the front? Why the inverse angle? You're losing nearly a third of the capacity by mounting that way.

OR . . . . have you snaked a fuel feed line down into the lower corner to suck up the last little dregs. In which case, NICE GOIN' ! !

Little tip: make it a hard line the same diameter as the outlet line of the VW tank and you can slip a little OEM brass mesh "sock" over the end of the line as a primary debris filter for the system.
Good tip, as always, on the filter.
The outlet on the cell is right above the rack for the steering, so the back of the tank is as low as Jimmy can get it and still have it caged in. It has 3/4" of clearance off the frame head, and an inch and a half off the tunnel while it's sitting at that angle.
In the first picture, you can see one of the outlets on the tank. The fire bottle is in the way of the other. What'cha can't see clearly is the growth off the center of the bottom rear that lets me set it at that crazy angle and still take advantage of most of the fuel. It's at a pretty odd angle if the tank's sitting flat, but it's almost horizontal at this angle in the car.
There's barely enough room to close the front end without going with a smaller tank (this one's 12 gallons) or crowding the steering by sliding it back a half-inch further. If you look at the cell in the second picture, over Jim's left shoulder, there's a better view of the bottom of the tank so you can see its contoured surface.
He's already planning on running a 90-degree turn off the backside to clear the first "U" joint in the steering shaft, so placing your brass "sock" there should be pretty easy. Thanks for the idea.
I'll try to take a better photo as it gets closer to being finalized.
Keep checking back, sis vous plait, 'cuz I'm determined to be done welding by noon Thursday.
