These are photos I took last night of the newly-completed tins.
I drove her into work this morning and it looks like I need a new diaphragm for the actuator on the driver's side carb, and I need to get a felt gasket (thanks, Alan!) for my dipstick, but she's a "Go" otherwise. No major problems to report.
Of possible interest, two of these pictures show the Lexan pass-through window on the front of the firewall. Kind of neat, I think. I'll have to figure out how to make a couple ducts from the scoops to the holes The Wrench left for them, but he's done and I have my car back.

Life's good! WOO-HOO!

Thanks, TC! Are you up for a phone call this weekend?

A few more shots ...
Least importantly, I put finally the matching ADAC club badges on. I got these from Paul "We haven't seen him in a while now and I hope he's okay" Harford, and they fall right in with the '64 coupe thing ... I put the dinner plate on here a while ago, and finally realized that the football-shaped badge corresponded with it.
Then there's the overall shot of the engine compartment tins in daylight; the backside (frontside) of the Lexan window, especially ... I really like the jewel-box effect and finish it adds.
Finally, the only true problem remaining. The driver's side Dell has a leaky diaphragm. If anybody has one of these rolling around, I need one. I'll be going to Peek Performance in the morning, barring overtime, and getting one there if there's one to be had.
If not, please search your bins for odd leftovers. It looks like it's one of those orange/burnt sienna paper jobbers.

WOW! Cory they look awesome! I'm sorry to say that I can no longer read any of your posts or look at anymore of your posted pictures - It's just not fair of me to do that to my little car anymore. I see the stuff you do and then I go out to my car and say "Why can't you be more like Cory's car?! You're always sitting around the garage with less horsepower and looking all normal when his car is out there tearing up asphalt and looking super bad ass!" So in hopes of maintaining any kind of longterm relationship with my car we can no longer look at or read about yours, I'm sorry.

On a side note - I had to laugh when I saw you still have the 1600 Super emblem on the back - Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! When you get her painted have new emblem made up with 2300 Super Genius!
Thanks, guys!
Mick, no worries. You can look forward to doing this when your car is old and gray! (That's what got me started!) Meanwhile, if we parked them next to each other again, your car would still get the lion's share of the attention, 'cuz nobody likes a hot-rod when the 'real McCoy' is right there.
You'd be able to sell tickets, and I'd have to have open seating in the front row.
Funny thing about a nice coat of Go-Faster-Red paint and a well-done interior. ...
I don't know Cory . . . I'm pretty sure if you parked 20 of our cars in a row, the Hoopty would have the biggest crowd around her. She is a unique work of automotive art. A little Picasso to some of our Rembrandts perhaps, but an incredible work of art. I for one can't wait to see your car live and in person. I saw the shape of her at Carlisle last year and thought she was something special then. Can't wait to see the project in her current form. I envy your patience and vision and I appreciate your sharing your progress step by step as you have. I feel priveledged to have a front row seat via the SOC. You are too modest. The HOOPTY ROCKS!
Thanks, Ricardo! Everything going okay with the tranny/sump-repaired Tropic Cruiser?

BT - The spring is a retainer for the oil cooler that's stuck into the fan shroud. There's a piece of tin work on the front side of the black part where the exhausted hot air can exit; the spring just keeps it in place while I'm bouncing down the road.

Tom - I don't think I'll ever get tired of walking around and tinkering with this jalopy, or looking at it. Maybe it's because I'm biased, but I see imperfections everywhere. I'm proud of it, don't get me wrong, but I'm not ever going to be truly done. That's where you guys have it over the Hoopty; you have what I could have had, had I been a smart shopper. You guys have 'finished' cars.

Soooo ...

Mickey, I went over the top tonight. I'm stuck on overtime, here until Wednesday, so I decided to actually wash this crate. I've had this little accessory lying around for a few weeks now, trying to think of just where to put it. I thought to myself, "Self, where would Mickey put this if he had destroyed his beautiful red car and made one of these things out of it?"
Then it hit me.

See if you can find it in the pictures ...

And Tom, there will be several folks to whom I owe stick time in the car. I'll add you to that list.
Tell me if you've heard this before, or maybe said it: "It's a VW shift pattern. Reverse is ..."
Here are a few more shots from tonight, for your entertainment -- and so you can tell the missus what she's in for -- 'cuz I'm not riding with anyone else who wants to drive it. (I won't watch at all, as a matter of fact! I'll admit it. I'm scared ... I'll be out tearing it up in Lane's car instead!)

Cory, I fully understand your feeling of never being done. I think that IS what this is all about. I know I am always looking for something I can do to my car to make it better or different or just some way to express myself through it. That was one of the coolest things I found in these cars. Cars like your Hoopty or Paul's Butch have so much personality- so much of their creators showing through that they are more than a hobby car - they are automotive art. I think we all strive to do that in some way. Part of what I love about this forum is the ability to share in the process either as an observer or as a contributor. I know I have gained a ton of great ideas from those who post here. I wish I had the time to devote to my car that you do. But thanks to the SOC even though I don't I can still share in the process. Thanks again for the front row seat. And thanks to all others that post here. Here's to never being done! Opps another toast of sorts. Gonna need another round at Carlisel!

Sorry if I got sorta gushy. Just spent a glorious 80 degree afternoon (in March??? in PA???) cruisin with my speedster. I love these cars!
