George, the first picture here was how the Hoopty stood with the old tweety-pipe muffler on the back. The second is how she sits now.
I cut the rear apron off when I modified the body a few years ago, and had to raise the ride-height to accomodate the new engine and exhaust setup.
The heads on my Type IV dump downward, not out the ends of the heads, so the pipes and the route they take through the rear structure of the car made it neccessary to bump the splines up a couple notches. The cowl induction pieces on top of the rear body section are somewhat deceptive, in that they add apparent mass to the back of the car -- it doesn't look quite as goofy as it would without them.
That big old Suzuki ATV muffler is another consideration. Had I left the height alone, that muffler would have dragged on every little bump in the road. Speed bumps would have killed me.

Used to have a stance more like Mango's,,, but then I discovered that driving the back roads was where its at !! Maybe this is a bit taller than I would like for the street. But this gives me the best combination of a comfortable ride, and ground clearance, along with adequate travel. I will be playing around with a quick adjustable ride height capability in future. But I have several other higher priority projects coming first.

Jim,

I think you win the award for best stance for my taste. how low is your front end from stock. Also can you do it yourself without screwing up the alingment? How much is lost in ride? What shocks do I need to buy after getting it that low? As you can see from the picture it sits a bit high.

George - by what I can tell by your pic, I don't think my car is that much lower than yours (maybe an inch lower). Measuring with a plumb line down the center of the front wheel, the measurement from the arch of my front wheel-well to the ground shows 23 and 7/8 inches. Same plumb line measurement down the center of the rear wheel, the arch of the rear wheel-well to the ground shows 20 and 1/2 inches.

Ron - I'm running 185x65x15R tires on 5.5 inch wheels (4-bolt). No issues with tire rub front or rear. I have front & rear sway-bars (swing axle).

My ride is not too stiff at this ride height. There is a thread on here about using shocks from an old Dodge Dart (very soft) to compensate for lowered stance. Use 'Search' to find the particulars.
