... with one interesting looking engine. Anyone have any experience with such a beast?

Is it on BaT as well? The listing is from theSamba.
That’s a supercharger...
Oops my bad. I meant Samba.
Bob lives right by there.
Obviously, it is registered as a VW. I can't think of how else it could be licensed here.
Looks in pretty good shape.
I am more interested in the supercharger (blower). Anyone have any experience with this? Looks like single carb. Nice and small. Clean installation, ... have never seen one, on one of these little air cooled engines.

That sounded like a chainsaw when he revved it up.
Yep, I saw that one too. Sounds nice and throaty. There is a company in Australia that sells a kit ~$2k. I just wonder how it feels, hp increase, torque, what kind of exhaust it needs... Not that I need one now, just dreaming of next project.
Can you supercharge at stroked out 2lt?
TRP: I don't know enough about supercharging to answer. It looks like the belt ratio is important as well as the size of the compressor. This Aisinsupercharger is 500cc in volume, info on this site: http://superchargersunlimited.com/specs.html
Site says good performance for up to 1200cc. But also says 1600cc VW and must limit revs so 16,000 supercharger rpm isn't exceeded.
Just the supercharger, no kit, can be purchased from the dub shop here:

I did own a G60 Corrado, which was 158hp stock. I bumped it up to 220 plus, with an Autothority kit. This included a modified fuel pressure regulator, new engine computer map chip, and an overdrive pulley for the charger. REALLY changed the character of the car, especially mid-range. I can't remember the numbers exactly, but 0-60 and 1/4 mile dropped dramatically. Also had a Tectonics(Darrell Vittone) cat-back exhaust.
I do remember going 50-80 in 3rd gear dropped from say 7.5 seconds to under 5, or something like that. The improvement was Mustang-spanking joy! Of course, the head gasket went shortly after this mod. Changed it and used Raceware studs and never looked back. Original had one-time stretch bolts. 7.5 pounds of boost to about 14.5 or 15. I put over 50K on it in modded condition and sold it with 98K on the clock.
Cheers
Back in the 60's and 70's, Judson made a supercharger for VW engines. I've only seen one of them, at a VW show in Eastern Connecticut.

They recommended it NOT be used on the infamous 40hp 1,300 (for a lot of other reasons), but the 1,200 and 1,600 engines were fine with it. As I recall, the Judson only supplied something like 3 - 4 pounds of boost so you'd see an increase of 30% or less.
Check this one out
Yes, "Bubba" was deaf for several days after that demo.....

Hmmm.
I'm assuming Gordon opened based on his comment.
