Putting a speedster on a lift

Do you guys worry about putting these cars on lifts? Do the mechanics have to lift a certain way to accomodate the frames/ not put pressure on the body of the car? do you speak with the mechanic first? Just curious as mine has to go into the shop soon for alignment/ oil change. Thanks!

Hi David, Yes you have to be "alert" when putting any car on a lift.
A good mechanic realizes the support points to be used, the body does not come into play. What kind of shop is your car going to?
Is it a vw shop or "we do it all" kind of place.
I have not used this shop below (I do all my own stuff)but it seems to be a well run, vw only establishment located in Rockland NY. Don't know if thats too far for you but I would choose a VW only shop over a VW dabbler.

David, those types of lifts are used by Kirk at Vintage Speedsters when building the cars so as long as you're careful it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure the body isn't stressed at any point.

I had an oil cooler crushed by a "VW's only" shop a few years back. Seems the mechanic just wasn't paying attention. The shop owner had replaced it before he even mentioned the accident to me.

Can't be half bad as the so called mechanic at a nearby Firestone Tire Center recently dumped a brand new Maxima off a lift sideways during a simple oil service... which for him, just wasn't so simple.
