Putting speakers in the ride

I am going to put some speakers in the door and was wondering do speakers sound better if i make a box for them? Anybody know about this stuff? No sub just a 6.5 speaker setup.

All I know is they will just interfere with listening to the engine, with or without a box.

Bill that is pretty close to the setup I was looking at. I have a set of components as well. What made you settle on that location for the tweeter because I was thinking about putting it closer to my ear.

Rather than hog an unsightly hole in a door panel, I've installed home pc speakers up above the 2 x 2 dash cross member and they have that big sound.

You're absolutely right Terry and I just installed one on my Speedster. No wiring required!

I'd consider the boxes up under the dash, maybe with a mechanism to fold them down. I have some in my doors, and to me it is like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. The tweeters are up in the corners under the dash and that looks fine. I'll try to get a picture. To make it worse my speakers are some fancy Alpines, with a sort of "blinging" ghetto grill (my opinion). I may find some more off the radar flat black grills.

i didnt want to drill mine for speakers, but wanted some tunes, so i went with an ipod/suitcase setup:

Yes Mango it is a back-up camera. I have a 7 inch monitor that folds up under the dash and I flip it down when I have my rack and suitcase on because they block the view out of my rear view mirror. It's great at night and when the top is up, but it's a little hard to see when the top is down during the day.
