Mike -

The Queen Mary is for sale (again) - so dig out coins from under the sofa cushions and be the first on your block with a trans-oceanic luxury liner!

The dome in the background is where the Howard Hughes 'Spruce Goose' was housed for exhibit when it was part of the Queen Mary park area. It now resides somewhere in Oregon (McMinnville?).

Peace - Out!

Hi Jim,

Yeah a buddy of mine was living at an apartment near Long Beach (above a brew pub) with a view of the ship. It's a shame to have these things parked as floating hotels accumulating dust. The QE2 was sold to a Kuwait group to be a hotel in the Gulf region. It just doesn't seem right to have something so historic and majestic, but what else can you do I guess? The public wants more....

Yeah Jim, the Spruce Goose is in McMinnville. The last time we went up for Parts Obsolete Campout we spent an afternoon at the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Beautiful displays, amazing planes. The Goose is HUGE. No pictures give an idea of the plane's scale. An SR71 Blackbird was displayed sitting under the Goose's wing.

I stayed on the Queen Mary in 1998 for a week. Amazing ship, beautiful and full of rich history. Spent hours in the engine. The oil pumps are as tall as I. Terrific experience, but a rather poor hotel...

I did see something but I'm not sure exactly what it was. The Queen Mary is such a big ship that when you look down the long hallways, the middle is lower than the ends. Consequently, you can't see the end of the straight hallway. What I saw was from shoulders down, a woman dressed in very vintage clothing, very pale grey color. With the vertical curve of the hallway, I couldn't see her head/face. She appeared to walk thru a door without opening it. But I suspect what I actually saw was just a flash down a long hallway of someone quickly entering room whose door was already adjar, or someone inside the room opening the door.

The weird part is it was down a hallway that was roped off - no one was staying there. Probably a trust among workers? Whatever it was, it definately startled me!
