I am starting this thread per "Cabanaboy's" request......
I signed up for a Car show at the queen Mary this coming Sunday Dec 3
I Have no information cause I sent the flier in with my 20.00 entry fee through a few drinking buddies.....If you are interested, I believe the entry fee day of show is 25.00 or as a spectator I believe it's free.....
As a particapent you get access to the ship for free and there are some other perks that go along with the day....
There are many things happening that day, which is why I didn't try to advertize this on the SOC, but if you have nothing better to do, this could be fun.....

I spent a week on the Queen Mary in 1998 (at a competition event). During the time between the competitive rounds, I toured the ship extensively.

Go to the engine room.... Un-freaking-believeable. I shot over a 100 pictures of the engine room, pumps and drive mechanisms. The oil pumps are taller than I am... Awesome!

Also moored there was (hopefully still) a Russian Scorpion Class submarine. I ran out of time to check that out, but my buddies said it was really neat. Of course, my so called "buddies" also talked me into some drinking contest that morphed into United States vs. Canada. Horrible evil little french canadian dude drank all of us under the table... Many brain cells sacrificed that night... Friends. Hmmm.. At any rate, the Queen Mary is magnificent.

Aw yes, the Queen Mary...
My aunt & uncle sailed on the final cruise from England to Long Beach. He was the Vice Mayor of LB at the time. After Nam, I went to work for the LB park dept. (thought it would calm me down). As it turns out, many of the city employees I got to know boasted about what a bonanza it was. Seems they were packing their lunch boxes with silverware and everything else they could smuggle out. The scam went on for months.
When I got fired for a "bad attitude" (didn't tuck my shirt in & get enough haircuts), my family connection meant nothing.
Bottom line: good job to lose!
