Sam and his builders have a great knack for asking “How are you gonna drive this?” and then really listening to the answers. They’ve been around a while and have seen a lot of what works and what doesn’t and know how to build a great gearbox, not just for us Speedster folks, but for all models of Porsche, too.
I’m curious, though, as I’m sure Al B is, about the final (ring and pinion) drive ratio you went with.
I went with the 3.88.

I'm pretty happy with my Rancho Pro Street transaxle . After talking to those guys I went with the 4.12 R&P, which was the right choice for me. On the roads I drive I'm in 3rd gear a lot of the time anyway. Once it was broken in it shifts like butter.
Like a lot of stuff, good gearing often depends on how it feels to the driver. I too was impressed like Gordon & Al G, that the Rancho guys, from in my case, a short phone call, could figure out what I was getting at.
As usual, Stan is right. I'm super pleased. In Hawaii my setup is working great.
The lesson to me was, go with the pros.
Today, I'm going for more seat time with my newly Rancho transaxled funny little clown car.

Junk PS: Some of you may have already heard that Shan over at Rancho passed away Xmas Eve morning. I never met him but I spoke with him on the phone when he talked me through some adjustments for my transaxle. Timing sucks, best wishes to his family.
