Just wondering what the general feeling is on the height of the lowest part of a muffler to the road should be to clear most obstacles.

I have had a scrape ow two, mostly on wierd driveway entrances but have now adjusted to where it seems to never scrape.

Thoughts? Your Speedster's measurement?

Thanks!

Gordon--with you inside or outside of the car--I should have thought about that!

Actually mine doesn't vary much at all with me in or out---stiff suspension, I guess!

From the lowest part of my A-1 Sidewinder I have 4 1/4" to the garage floor. I have gotten pretty good about being aware of that and automatically take measures when I come to a speed bump or a driveway that starts up steeply.

My Vintage Speedster has a simple adjustment built into the spring plate that adjusts the car's height---just jack it up and turn a bolt with a hex wrench. Super easy. I think I'll shoot for 5" height so I don't have to think about the pipes scraping the ground. It's a trade off between looks and function I guess.

That's wht I was wondering about the rear height of some other cars.
If anyone knows about angle of approach, it's our Mr. Crosby!

OK, Jack, Here's what I found:

My header tubes (the lowest point of my system) are 4-3/4" off the ground with the car empty. I tried putting the Jack Russells in there, but they kept jumping out and sniffing around the garage.

The point on the bottom of the header tubes with the most scrapes on it lines up vertically with the rear of the bottom valance of the body - in other words, it sticks out the back just as much as the body does, but hangs lower.

I only scrape when I go on or off the trailer. If I put a 1-1/2" plank under the back end of the trailer ramps, then I have enough clearance that I don't scrape. I just carry some short planks with me....NBD.

So there you go. NOW, the Jacks want to go for a ride, so - See ya!
