Hi Everybody,

I am planning on buying a 2003 Beck Speedster this week. However there seems to be some confusion on my part as to whether I will need to have the car pass smog or whether the SB100 status of the car today will transfer to me or not.

The car is currently registered in California and has SB100 (smog exempt) status. Will this transfer to me or do I need to have the car pass smog now.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks guys, the part of the statute that says the SB100 is not transferable was confusing, but I see now that what they mean is SB100 is not transferable to another car. OK to transfer to another owner.

This was important to me since the Beck's aren't based on the VW pan I didn't have the option to register under the donor vehicle.

I think this car is going to be a ton of fun. Still waiting for the insurance quote from State Farm that sounds like it will let me drive 7500 miles per year.

I was also looking into other window options. I saw via old posts that Russ at Fibersteel has been promising the elusive slide windows for a dog's age. Any updates?

Also I spoke to JPS Motorsports about a hardtop option that it looks like he has for his cars which seem to be based on the Vintage Speedsters. Anyone know if the Beck body is similar enough so you could use the same hardtop. I am hoping to rain proof my speedster, this may be a futile hope based on some of the posts I've seen. I'd love to hear from other Beck owners how theirs hold up in the rain.

This seems like a great forum and I'm looking forward to particpating.
Shani-

I went through a lot, and spent a ton of money getting a hardtop for my JPS in an effort to make it more weather-tight. It never really sealed that well.

I actually had much better success working with the soft-top. There are a number of modifications that can be made to make them seal much better. Do a site search to get the details-- I was posting on this in 2003 or so.

BTW: Welcome!
