I have a CMC flared fender speedster with glass roll-up windows. I bought the kit about 90% complete. I am currently installing the top and windows. The CMC instructions say to location the bow mount plate (flat plate with welded 1/4" bolt), horizontally 5" back from the door and vertically 3/4" down from the top of body. My question to all is, the 3/4" dimension can not be correct. Can anybody tell me the correct location the mounting plate should be located? FYI... The bows are different from the standard convert. top bows.

Thanks!

Mark:My CMC had the threaded mount molded right into the body. I had a hard time finding it as the carpet was covering it up Is your carpet in?
If it is, feel around the area you described for a threaded hole that the bow mount plate bolts into. See page 93 in the '84 build manual in our online library. They call it the "tubular support arm" which should be molded into the body in that location.

thank y'all for your replies... I looked at both of your cars (very nice!) but the bows and mounting in both of them are totally different unfortunatly, to the one's that were included with the glass roll up window kit. I was told by JP Motorsports that CMC only offered the roll up windows for a short time before they closed. He said he has only seen one other one so, I hope that's not a bad sign for me... :-) Regarding the owner's manual, the roll up window kit came with a seperate set of instructions and the support bar isn't included or molded into my body. They just showed a half a$$ diagram with a horizontal dimension of 5" from door jam and 3/4" down from top of body. The mounting plate inself is three inches in height so that is diffently not right. I found a gentleman's website tonight who has a non flared version with roll up windows but he had no email. I searched for his name and ran across an email address, I hope it is the right guy for he had a unique name, there couldn't be that many people with that name and doctors to boot. Thanks Again!!!

In past top installations, I assemble the entire top to the car including placing the metal bows on the pivots. Then with the top stilll up, I unbolt the metal bows from the body pivot points and move it up and forward or back a bit to improve the tightness of the top fit...
I have a helper on the outside of the car to let me know what is the best overall position then drill a new pivot point, install a bushing (a cut piece of tubing) place it through the body and re-install the pivot bolts in the new location.
