This popped up for sale just a few miles from me:

http://www.cabrioletmotors.com...lle_NC_199393350.veh

Based on the gauges I think it's a CMC.  I'm probably going to go check it out just to see how it feels to sit in one of these.

Some questions I've got though...

1. Price.  From what I've read on this forum, am I in the ballpark to say that depending on what the engine displacement is (as well as other factors) that this car is realistically worth somewhere in the area of $8K-$12K?  I'm assuming this dealership doesn't know the displacement, seeing as how they have it listed as a 3-cylinder (WTF!?)  But those look like dual 40 or 44 Webers so chances are it's bigger than a 1600cc.

2. Are the CMC interiors compatible with the interior kits that VS sells?  I would be ripping this tired interior out if I picked this car up, so I'd want to make sure the seats, door cards, and dash trim in particular could be replaced.

3. If I needed to replace the top and/or side curtains, are the ones VS sells compatible with CMC?

4. I hate those gauges.  How difficult would it be to fill the holes so I can add the VDO 356 repro gauges?  Would one of those DIY fiberglass kits you get at a FLAPS suffice?

5. It's the wrong color.  Since I'd be stripping the interior and filling holes in the dash anyway, it would be a good time for paint.  For a driver quality color change to black, would I be off base estimating $2-$3K?

Thanks!

1.  Looks like CMC/FF to me by the dash, seats, door panels, gauges, engine grill.  The CMC deluxe kit (no chassis, engine, trans, wheels, etc) or assembly (other than hung doors) was $8k in 1989!  It seems to be priced fairly for a dealer. Provided it still is 4 cylinder - and cylinder 3 doesn't have a dropped valve.

2. Yup seats, door panels, and carpet (with a bit of fiddling) all fit.  The Speedster buckets can be resold - some prefer the slotted buckets. VS just uses the gauge eyebrow which can easily be recovered.

3.  VS tops fits fine as does the header bow and clips.  Side curtains depend on windshield placement and the mounting holes - so very very doubtful but you can fabricate your own tight fitting ones.

4.  Yes they are Vintage CMC gauges (sold for $325 in 1990) - They can be resold - be sure to include the senders (gas, oil pressure). They are slightly larger than most replacement gauges by 1/4 inch so fibeerglassing will be reqd.  Gorilla hair will work for the small amount need to be filled.

5.  It looks like the original (durable) gel coat.  It can be painted - black takes alot of prep not to end up looking like a plastic replica (waves, ripples and glass strands).  $3k is probably realistic if someone else does the work - best to remove everthing that comes off.

Other than aged interior, missing pieces either side of engine and hanging down radio thing,  it looks very nice car. Check floor pan for rust and engine for serious oil leaks.  Worthwhile trying to track PO down to get engine build details.

Jeff

How unfinished is it?  Any pics?

Rolling chassis, head/ tail lights installed, bumpers installed with trim, lower side trim on, door latches and decklid in. Hood ready to go on, gas tank neck professionally shortened, rear seat done, front seats halfway done, wiring installed. Can get pics later.

Jeff
