Guys, I am looking at a sweeet ride, and it has this setup:1641cc engine, Dual FRD34 Dellorto carburators, Vented valve covers with breather box, 009 dist.,blue coil, 110 cam, lightened fly wheel and sport muffler/header system. Not being that technical I was wondering if this would move the car along nicely. had been hoping for at least a 1776 - prefer the 1915, but with a used car, you get what the last guy put in.Otherwise the car is IT.Do not plan to outrace the world, but need to keep up with freeway traffic and climb the Grapevine (for all you SoCal people) at (some) speed.

Thanks
Grant

That's exactly the setup I had in the Hoopty until last February. Never had a problem keeping up with right-lane traffic. Not very hilly here, but back roads were plenty of fun.
Just check the oil once every couple weeks. It'll puke it like it's getting paid to. Normal, if my engine was any indication. It ran its little hiney off for me.
The running gear was all very dependable with the exception of my left front ball joint assembly. Easy enough replacement on most VW parts. My car was you car's grandfather, in terms of kit development. Should be the same bloodlines for most SB/CMC-supplied parts.
Good luck! Should be enough fun for ten people! Throw some pictures up when you get a chance!
Grant,

The engine you've described will move the car nicely.

You'll get good MPG and it will run cool as long as the you've got a fan belt on it.

The main thing is you'll be able to enjoy life at a new level and experience what the rest of us continue to talk about.

One thing about the type 1 VW Case; it can be enlarged very easly but like most of us "one step at a time."

No it doesn't have a Subaru or Type 4 Engine or 901 5 speed Trans but most of us don't either.

Just take care of it, check the oil, check the fan belt and drive.

Jack
