The question about sound systems reminded me about an option I ordered for my new Speedster. IM offers a Dynamat sound insulation package; Henry says the difference in cockpit noise is "like day and night". Dynamat is kind of expensive but there are inexpensive versions/clones (check a roofing supply store). Another disadvantage is that the stuff is fairly heavy so if you really add much Dynamat you'll put quite a few pounds on the car. Undercoating the fenders can help reduce road noise.
My new car has a restored, vintage Becker Grand Prix AM/FM stereo radio with limited power output (mounted below the dash in a "radio pod") so I bought the Dynamat option in the hope that I'll be able to hear the radio while cruising at 70 mph.
Continuous exposure to high noise levels can also be very tiring, so maybe the Dynamat will also make longer trips more pleasant for driver and a passenger.
