The question about sound systems reminded me about an option I ordered for my new Speedster. IM offers a Dynamat sound insulation package; Henry says the difference in cockpit noise is "like day and night". Dynamat is kind of expensive but there are inexpensive versions/clones (check a roofing supply store). Another disadvantage is that the stuff is fairly heavy so if you really add much Dynamat you'll put quite a few pounds on the car. Undercoating the fenders can help reduce road noise.

My new car has a restored, vintage Becker Grand Prix AM/FM stereo radio with limited power output (mounted below the dash in a "radio pod") so I bought the Dynamat option in the hope that I'll be able to hear the radio while cruising at 70 mph.

Continuous exposure to high noise levels can also be very tiring, so maybe the Dynamat will also make longer trips more pleasant for driver and a passenger.

You can add a amp to your existing radio if it doesn't have enough power. Either find an amp with line level inputs or get a line level converter (line level => RCA)

In my experience, Dynamat is the best marketed (like a lot of things :) ) This stuff from Parts Express is just as good. And the stuff from the roofing supply house is just harder to install.

You may want to buy a couple of the sound deader stuff in the spray can. This stuff is nice to blast those little annoying rattles. Just be careful, it can really gum up moving parts.

The difference between Dynamat and the generic is a 200% markup with a pretty Logo. The difference between Dynamat and membrane roofing material is 400% markup and a pretty logo. Granted the membrane roofing material doesn't seem to stretch as easily adn usually can only be found in 100ft rolls. The end fact is, that I have been in similiar cars with the generic and the name brand, I am very picky when it comes to sound and couldn't tell the difference.
