Probably a dumb question, but does any have any experience on painting a speedster a different colour? Can the engine bay be done without removing the engine? Any other particularly challenging aspects?

Thanks

I have experience repainting Speedsters, Vettes, Blazers, VWs, Camaros, 46 Chevys, 48 Plymoths, 69 Cutlasses, etc. From total restorations to almost shameful scuff and shoots. I don't see how you could paint the very inside of the engine compartment without the 1 hour it takes to pull the engine. Why not pull the deck lid. prep the lip of the compartment and shoot all that, then install a new engine liner (the thick tar paper stuff. Also, pull the doors and bonnet and paint the jams on the doors and bodddy, the underside of bonnet and deck lid and the lip of the trunk, or the entire trunk. Then reassemble the doors and lids and paint the entire exterior in one piece. I hate painting where there has been oil because it's really hard to avoid fish eye and stuff. The truth is you can get a really nice paint job either way. Maybe next time you have the engine out you could paint the compartment... that or use the roll on trunk liner and make it black.

Hey Jack, what is roll on trunk liner?

Definitely pull the engine before painting and disassemble items described in a previous post. From my experience get the car perched up in the air on blocks or ramps too... my car has some areas down low that got a hint of paint.

Paint it wild, have fun, there's no right or wrong or value loss like on real collectibles (some circles), jus don't do a half-ass job!
