I just found this great site (you guys have it together !!!). I have a strong desire for a really nice 356 speedster. (and I want it RIGHT NOW! Ok, Ok, so I am in my 60's and figure I'm too old to buy green bananas so I want everything RIGHT NOW!)

Here's what I am looking for ...... 356 Speedster with good top and side curtains and tonneau; engine first choice is 1900, second is 1700; color first choice is white, second is silver/grey, third is red; Interior needs to be first class and appropriate color for exterior (nothing wild!); must have all the original badging (I want it to look like an original and drive like today!). I would prefer something that is registered in such a way as to qualify for the "collector" plates in Colorado (25 yr). I am a cash buyer and make fast decisions if I have good info and pictures.

So, that's my ideal shopping list. How close to it can you come? Let me know right away as I truly am eager to get one of these beauties. I am available until the 9th of Sept and then I will be gone for about 10 days.

Thanks for reading this and thanks for your consideration.

Vince:
Sorry. I did not know that was against protocol to mention the other site. I feel that it is an excellent resource for information that is censored on this site. I have put a lot of time on a couple of posts only to find they were censored. That is no biggie cause we know that advertizers pay money and do not want to have their products flogged however I see no reason that legitimate issues can't be discussed in a civil manner. These are after all KIT CARS, regardless if a few brands are made a few at a time on jack stands in a warehouse. These kind of products are going to have shortcomings and if one has a solution it should be shared.
I will contiinue to visit both sites. There is a lot of stuff here and a lot of compllimentary stuff there. Man this turf battle feels like my days in the Corp world where every manager was more interested in the size of his staff and budget than the benefit to the organization as a whole.
I expect this will be censored but I wil copy it for reference.

I live in the desert in Oregon. Great country with blue skies and great rivers---and lotsa dust. That is why I carry the California sweeper? (looks like a dust mop) Once a day I wiper the interior down and once a week I use McQuires Final Inspection. But yes, a tan colored interior would be better. you can buy a new Beck for slightly more than my used IM.
They are on the net and Luke Richards is a good guy and a good salesman.
Ralph, My comment has nothing to do with advertising....
The other site was created because "some" felt this site was not quite intellectual enough for them, and they chose not to deal with "Hooligans" like myself. So they created the other site...
They still post here when they feel like it, because their value system is awary, but thats another story....
I feel if you have something to sell, post it on both sites if that floats your boat, but a link to the other site should be considered a slap in the face to the SOC loyalists, and I am quite suprised that none of the moderators of this site have anything to say about this...........
I have no problem posting a link to the other site.

However, Ralph, The other site wasn't created because of censoring, actually it was supposedly created because I refused to censor peoples comments. This was taken as not moderating. So fine, whatever. But what censoring are you referring to?

I can get you a white with navy interior/top Beck Speedster. Very low miles, the owner bought it from us just 3 months ago, and is now having to move out of the country and can't take it with him.

Interested?

I can send you pics if you want.

BTW, the dash was signed by Chuck Beck himself.

Steve, I will call you tomorrow.

Bob, Please send me pictures and details. Also you phone and I will call if I like the looks of what your friend has.

Notice to everyone .... Thanks for sending me "possibilities". I have talked to some really nice folks and gotten much encouragement and good advice. There is more to choose from than I thought, but that makes the choices a bit harder. I am still looking !!
Dusty, check out the one that Todd D'Agostino is selling here on the Classifieds for $18,500 with all the goodies including all the badges, silver, black leather interior, 1776 cc motor, 3:88 tranny, disc brakes and only 2,600 miles on the odometer. Fits the description of what you're looking for to a tee.
I just returned from North Carolina trip and had time to see the Beck (Exclusive Motors, Charlotte)and the Intermeccanica((J. Stefano, Hickory) people. Both were very gracious and explaned their cars carefully and thoroughly. Great folks to deal with!! Now I am more frustrated in my choices than ever!! Can any of you tell me how they stack up to Vintage? I want a good car but also want the most for my $$$, of course. I have decided that I definitely OWN a 356 but just don't know which one. :) Any help would be appreciated.

I visited Vintage and Intermeccanica, had multiple and lengthly conversations with the other vendors and spent about a year lurking on this site before putting my money on an IM. Instead of looking for the best car for the money I was looking for the best car that suited me, as I was prepared to spend a little more in order to get a daily driver that was not the usual midrange sports car.

The car I really wanted didn't exist when I started looking, a 356 replica with a hassle-free water cooled modern engine and transmission. Then SAW came out with their Suburu, and I spent a lot of time talking to Steve. But I really liked the quality of the IM cars, they are really nicely built. Henry knew that a more modern engine was something his customers were asking for so we decided to make my car the test car.

The real reason I went with IM was not that they made the 356 replica with the features that I wanted, but that Henry was willing to build any 356 replica with any features that I wanted. He does it all the time with everyone who walks, phones or emails though his door.

Gz

Stuart,
YES!!!!! I just made a deal with John LeGate and my shipper is picking it up Monday (Oct 10). John is a real gentleman to deal with and I am anxious to get my hands on the car. I will post some pics when it gets here (and some of my other cars, if anyone is interested?). THEN ... you guys keep an eye out as I plan to make this one look so real it will knock your socks off! I am not out to "fool" anyone, I just enjoy the Grand Illusion of replicating the original as close as possible. I did that recently with another type of car and had a ball with it. Anyone can build a handmade car with their own design because no one knows what it should look like, but "replicating" a well known design is another matter. I hope I can get lots of good ideas and feedback from all of you.

The search is over and it was fun, but now the real fun begins!

Ride safe, smile big ............Dusty
