My Speedster from VS Arizona has finally arrived. Came in an enclosed trailer that Justin had arranged for. Got it last Friday and had it registered the following Saturday with no hassles. (see separate forum post). Here is an overview of options etc. :

Ivory white, Baseball glove Interior, Ivory stitching/piping, Tan top, tan carpeting, under dash handbrake, 5 lug chrome wheels and nipple hubs, 1915 cc engine dual solex carbs, rear reflectors, Tuned exhaust with stinger pipe, Oil cooler, 3.88 transmission, front/rear disc brakes, Pirelli 185/65/15 tires, dual mounted mirrors, retro radio/stereo, trunk carpeted, luggage rack, coco mats.

Working with Justin in Arizona was a pleasure and communication was great in the process. The car was estimated to be completed mid November, so it was about one month late in delivery. There are some minor kinks that still need to be worked out: Hand break needs adjusting, passenger door latch needs adjusting. The side mirrors don't really work to give you a proper view even after adjusting.  I guess they are there for "looks" only, so I bought some fish eye mirrors that I attached over them..now I can see cars on either side from the drivers seat.

The car runs good. Have 135 miles on it after a short road trip to Cayucas over the weekend. . .Will be taking it to Stinns Automotive (Santa Maria) for first valve adjustment and oil change when I reach 300 miles.

Congrats on the new ride, Danny.

Here's what you'll probably want for a driver's side mirror:

AeroGlass

These will bolt right onto the mirror base that's already on your car and give a useful wide-angle view without the extreme 'fish-eye' effect of those stick-on mirrors.

I did what you've done for a while, then broke down and sprang for this. It's a bit pricey (used to be $60 at Sierra Madre - but now $100), but an expense you probably won't regret. The quality is a lot better than what VS supplied on my car.

On the passenger side, even this is pretty much useless, and you're probably just as well served by a stick-on mirror.

Here's the link.

Great car.  My mirror is similarly placed (I only have driver's side).  I have found that when sitting all the way back in my seat, i can see out of it.  It definitely takes some getting used to.
Enjoy it.  Yes, it may have some quirks.  But don't get discouraged.  Once sorted, they are quite reliable.  After almost 2 years of owning mine, I still love every minute I'm driving it (except of course when stuck in horrendous traffic jams).
Just be safe.  No ones sees us from their SUV's.  Our cars are nothing more than glorified motorcycles with larger fairings (and 4 wheels).
The great thing about our weather is that these cars can be enjoyed year-round.  I look for any excuse to drive it.  Since I've owned mine, a week hasn't gone by that I haven't driven it.

I don't think they are improperly installed but maybe mal adjusted but if your looking to see the whole side of your car your defeating the purpose of those mirrors IMHO.

If you can get used to driving with them adjusted like this, and I mean it does take some adjustment you'll convert all the mirrors in your cars to this model.   Blindspots only exists because of misadjusted mirrors again others may disagree.     My wife showed me this and she converted me    Ray

Danny.  What is this, next to your exhaust? 20181220_155616

They don't call me a newbie for nothing so I inquired with Justin. Here is what I am told: "That bolt is actually running through that clamp. That is an exhaust clamp. The last 8-10-12 inches whatever that is of that exhaust is a separate piece so the tip can be adjusted up or down etc allowing it to fit more configurations and to also gain a little clearance from. The ground if need be. The tail pipes in vws and speedsters do hang a little low and on steep driveways you can scrape. "

...can you just change the mirror /swap without touching the base?

Like Troy said, the Sierra Madre mirror bolts right onto the mirror base that's already on the car. No need to open up the door panel. The threads on the glass frame are the same as the original adjusting bolt, too, so no need to replace the bolt, either.
