FYI:

AC Industries (SoCal) just brought out a new 1-5/8 heater box with aluminum heat sinks. 1-5/8 heater boxes themselves are rare, and until now they all were just a "J" pipe inside a housing. SoCal 1-58 Heater Box

They're $500/set, so you've got to really want them-- but it is real heat with no compromise in performance.

"BlazeCut®(TM) woulda' saved it!!"

My experience is that most of the time, even though I know the facts, at a later time I find out that I did not know ALL the facts.  And much of the time, I know the facts which prefit my paradigm, while dismissing information which does not agree with my facts as misinformation.  Actually, I have yet to meet the soul who knows all the facts.

Me neither, Todd. I certainly don't. Every day I find out how little I really do know.

101 degrees (without heat index) and those to our North are already worried about heat!

It’s 95° (straight-up) out here on the prairie as well, Greg. The thing is, in the upper Midwest, winter is never too far out of mind.

Since my “opinion/fact” tagline was so popular, how about another? “Failing to plan is planning to fail”.

I've been using the 'heavy duty' heater boxes from Aircooled dot net for about five years now and they do indeed provide 'real' heat - for most reasonable folks.

That assumes you don't need to be toasty on a 20-degree day with the top down. My car is comfy with the top down to about 50 degrees. Below that, I put the top up and, with the windows in, there's as much heat as in a normal car - you can drive in shirtsleeves.

Of course, my car has a mild two-liter that only needs a 1.5" exhaust (the Aircooled heater boxes are 1.5"). It looks like Stan's find now provides the same kind of heat for those who insist on stuffing more hp into our silly little cars.

I guess a gas heater might be nice if you insist on plowing through the drifts in Lower Snowbovia, but, like Stan says, this heater box looks like a rational alternative for rational folks.

With a heater like this the warm smell of colitas rising up in the air should be easy to detect.

And I always thought it was coitus.......

Mitch, ditto on temps with the gas heater in my Spyder, but without the "top" part.

The heaters in our little beasts only work if the engine gets warm enough to produce heat. I even have the Thermostat. With all the cooling precautions, larger sump, oil cooler with temp gate, it is impossible to get the engine warm enough in 30 degree weather. I also enlarged the curtains to seal the cabin and added the middle top latch. Put in the frame bypass to increase the air flow and engine noise. Toasty warm in the mid 40's though. I had a BA 6 in a Westy that would melt steel, probably should put a little gas job in the Speedster. I just do not drive in the cold any longer.

My mind automatically read this in the voice of George Carlin. Funniest comic ever and damned near prescient, RIP.
