We all agree that Subbie engine with its modern amenities is way to go.  We envy the simple Subbie 5 speed or automatic trans.  Why not the 4 wheel drive, suspension and disc brakes too?  Talk about a project.  Great for upstate New Yorkers!  Not mine but a steal for $500.

Was going to cut photos but they say SAMBA on them so guess copyright protected.  Take a look at pictures before ad expires.

Strapping a body on a chassis is old skool but we had fun doing it too. The Soob thing here looks complicated. In the '6o's, we built a chassis once with a 283 / tranny bolted straight to a narrowed rear axle with a Mini ...well quasi Mini body

built on top of it. It went very well in a straight line but was a bitch in a turn. Hard to keep the front wheels down too. The cops made the DOT make us take it off the road.

We did the same thing by dropping a 383 into an Austin Healey 3000.

Went like a Bat out of Hell in a straight line (once you got beyond the initial 100 feet of gargantuan rear axle hop) but you simply could not turn the damn thing.  WAY too much weight up front and, even with front disk brakes, stopping was a perpetual adventure.

But a 283 in a Mini?  That's just sick.... (and fun, too!)
