Here in New England, which is usually a bit blasé about cars in general but has occasional moments of inspiration, we are close to the Audrain Auto Museum in Newport, RI (not far from Jay Leno's east-coast ocean-side home out on Ocean Drive.  Taylor Swift has a place out there, too).

David Osborne became the CEO of the Audrain a while back, and their outward presence has increased immensely since he arrived, with car shows, cars and coffee events monthly in good weather, and the only real concours in the Northeast these days.

I spotted this video of a Porsche 904 and thought you all might like to see it.  I simply can not imagine buying a car like that and storing it under wraps forever, but it's good to see it out getting some exercise.

Was amazed seeing the first shots of the interior as to how much it looked like that of a Porsche 914!  Dash, door cards (cept windows) and rear seat bulkhead.  With the body off in another picture, the chassis also looked like a 914 with exact layout.

When I look at it - it looks somewhat kit car-ish.  I guess because it has been replicated so many times by kit car manf.  A few years back, at Carlisle, there was this replica (914 donor) beauty just behind the SOC Speedsters. (Sure beats the Chalon kit!)

The 904 was just another light race car, designed and manufactured in a few months.

It was designed to excel and stay within a set of rules. It was not designed to be a finished, polished road car.

Kit cars look like the 904, not the other way round.

Did you ever REALLY look at a Ferrari Testarossa? Look hard, that looks like a kit car assembled in somebody's back yard.
