I am in the process of Overhauling my Spyder.  I bought a rear disc brake kit from JBugs. Part number 22-2905.  I got all the old stuff out which was a total pain in the a$$.  Especially the axle bolt at first.  Then i realized I actually had a torque multiplier in my dune buggy parts.  Anyways as i was trying to put my shocks on i realized it would not fit because it was hitting my rear brake caliper.  With a little research after the fact I figured out my rear brake set up was from a post 1968 Ghia.

The question is what is the correct set up to buy that will fit my system.  I want 5X205 lug pattern and something that will not hit my shocks.  What are you guys running with in the rear.  disc brakes of course.

The front is all done with drop spindles.  Tires come in a couple days.  Next is the cable shifter install.

Also, if anyone wants my old shifter linkage and shifter you can have it for free.  Just pay for shipping if you are not local.

Thanks,

Raffi

You can clock the rear brakes in any of 4 positions(well, 3, I wouldn't try under at 6 o'clock) to get them out of the way of the shocks. Did you try that? Most people install those kits with the caliper rearward, but mine are installed calipers up at 12 o'clock. This way bleeding is easy and effective. Whatever works for no interference.

Also, when going disc watch out for clearance to the clamshell. Older Spyders need this opened up as the inner fender liner hits the caliper on bumps. That can pop the clamshell latches, not a good thing.

What brand Spyder do you have?
