1. Since my new purchase has the rear sag as common I've read on CMC speedsters and there is a difference of height from axle center to ground--lower on driver side as expected I'm seeking what is the proper or preferred angle to recalibrate the torsion bars to. Currently has 4 bolt pattern rims with disc brakes all around.

2. I'm thinking the braking is much improved with the disc on all 4 veruses using  "wide 5" rims--I'm guessing that means going back to drums and a 5 lug set-up?

3. Have not driven the car because the drivers rear wheel is so close to the fender well. I would not like to trim the wheel well but correct the suspension first.

SO some help with the situation on my first 356 would be appreciated--yes, I will going as a member and get the manual but experience from real problem solvers speaks volumes.

The distance from the center of the axel to ground is meaningless....  Its just 1/2 the tire / wheel diameter....  You are looking for "ride height", usually measured at the same point on both sides of the car....  ( Top edge of wheel well maybe. ) You can adjust the camber (preferred cure), and / or go to a slightly smaller tire....   Grinding CMC wheel wells is a common practice..Just remove material from the inside lip to gain only the clearance required.

It would help to know if you have IRS or swing axels....

Will be ordering the manual today as I just placed cash down on purchase so my feet are getting wet into the CMC 356 world. Have owned a variety of Vw's ( in 1979 owned a rust free 1966 21 window--kicking myself now) in past and have a beautiful 68 Ghia Vert in Cherry Red currently on Ebay.

Looking for clubs/owners in Ohio as well as anywhere to elp troubleshoot from experiences of what works and is a waste of time on these cars--free time is difficult to come by--yah know what I mean.

Thanks for the page numbers Rusty.

I also have IRS and decided to stay with 165r15's.  I put on Vredestein T-Trac's and really like them.  They were supposed to be T-Trac 2's but Big O screwed up and ordered the wrong ones.  I beat them up on price and got them for $78.** each + $20 shipping from New Jersey.  If you need/want new tires take a look.
