The disc conversion may give an additional 1/2 to 3/4 inches positive on each side. Most all the rotors are made in China unless you are purchasing the high dollar set up. You can use cable crimps for e brake. McMaster Carr has a varity of cable ties/splices
On my D, I cut off the ends at the drum end and drilled them out. I set the adjusters at the hand brake 1/2 a inch down from the top the slid the drilled ends back on at the drums snuggly and brazed them. I went Type 3 the 2 peace drums.
For disc you should have a pair of set screw colliers that slip over the cables at the calipers. If not you could braze in hex nuts as colliers.
Also Airkewld BAD series disc brakes. Made in the US and look high quality, but I have no experience with them. Almost certainly overkill, but they sure look cool, er, kewl.
