ive got a CMC replica and am looking for the rear engine latch assembly. I've checked all the usual sources, aasesales, stooddard, etc and have not come up with anything. There is currently nothing but gravity holding the engine lid down. I'd like to purchase the whole assembly- upper and lower latch with cable and handle. It doesn't necessarily have to be for a 356, am thinking early vw or 914 might work. Any suggestions for sourcing are appreciated.

I have extra near 30 old unused CMC trunk latch. It uses a cut off bolt for the upper part (striker). The cable and black plastic handle appear to be FLAPS sourced choke cable that runs in the fiberglassed in copper tubing which is part of the car. I'll round it up and try to post photo tomorrow.

While we are on the subject, I'd be interested to know how people back up the hood release. Like, when the pull cable breaks, and then what do you do? A second pull is needed that you can reach from somewhere. Actually, such would be needed front and back, I'd suppose. On my old 356 coupe, I rigged a coat hanger to the front for the hood, w/ hole through the frame to get to it. Maybe there are better ways?? And I am going to say that Stroud's ever so clever electrical solenoid gizzy, hooked to the lic. plate, while outrageously cool, might not be good, since we are talking emergency situation, and maybe electricity is not on. Anyway, comments??
Thanks for the responses, all. Very helpful. Carey from Becks contacted me as well, looks like they use the same latch assembly. This was my second post in this forum since buying the CMC. This forum is a great resource, I greatly appreciate the answers.
Good comment, El Frazoo. I'm trying to mimic the originality of a real 356 but I like the idea, something to keep in mind as I'm sure it'll happen to me at some point. FYI, I've got a '95 993 and they are still mechanical. Lube and maintenance on a good working mechanism have so far alleviated any suspicions of future failures.
Roger that, I use a goodly dose of white lithium grease -- works wonders.
