OK, so I had the car out today.... a helpful fellow motorist pulled alongside at the lights to tell me my back wheel had a "wobble". I knew this already and had bought a new wheel in anticipation.

Before swapping tyre, I thought I'd check. Turns out its not the wheel at all, its the hub.

So......what to do, is it more likley to be the driveshaft, hub or axle tubes??

Its not an issue when driving, no vibration .....should I just ignore ????

Yeah, there's definitely an issue.

Pull the wheel and drum off and see if the axle is straight when you turn it.  There should be less than .005" run-out at the end of the axle.

if that's OK, put the drum back on, torque the nut to 300 ft lbs. and see if there is a wobble in the drum when it turns.  There shouldn't be very much run-out at the drum - maybe .010 - .020" or so, tops.  (There may be a bit more than that if the drum is old and has been overheated somewhere along the way)

If THAT is OK, then put the wheel on and see what the run-out is at the wheel lip.  I'm hoping that's where you find it, as the cheapest alternative.  If the wheel has wobble but the other two places don't, then get a new wheel and rave on.
