@Jane - you should have the following scribed into the mirror glass…"Objects in mirror are LOSING!" 

Here's what I did for my mirror;

I got a billet hot rod mirror from Speedwaymotors.com from their garage sale section because it was missing the stick-on windshield mount, about $16, then I made an aluminum block 3/4 x 1/2 x 1 1/2 long, sanded an angle on the bottom, drilled and tapped a 10-32 hole for the stud from the mirror. Next I drilled a 1/4 hole at the top and sawed it off to make a clamp. Than I drilled two 8-32 holes in the end for clamp screws to clamp it to the windshield rod. It doesn't look stock but neither does the rest of my car. Mirror is about 1 1/2 x 4 and solid as a rock.
