I recently heard of a couple of local PCA events and decided to test the waters. I joined the local chapter website and posted on a thread about a cruise coming up this weekend. I very frankly told them I had a replica (including some pics), but asked if I would be welcome. Happily, the response was:

"You're definitely welcome, we don't mind replicas, they are Porsche's in spirit.. Please feel free to come out to the drive this weekend or any event really. We also have our 40th anniversary event coming up this month that you are welcome to attend. The registration deadline is quickly approaching for sign up to that though, but there is still time and room for you.

By the way, your car looks great, I would love to have one of those...

So it seems that Gordon is right. Some chapters are a bit snobby, while others are welcoming. I will probably participate in Sunday's cruise and see how the folks are in person.

Got a funny PCA story to relate... We have a local chapter here but haven't joined. We foolishly attempted to join PCA with the spyder and were declined as it is a replica. Honestly didn't think about that when we attempted to join. Now understand that I can join using my $3,500 salvage title 911, but the, ahem - MUCH more costly replica that used most of a donor 911 - no way...

Anyhow, couple of the local guys are real cool and a couple are real weiners. One of the cool guys suggested joining PCA but doing all the runs in the spyder. There is/was a particular 996 driver who apparently is quite an arse... He's a straight line driver and always rubs it in that his 996 is quicker than the old air cooled NA 911s. Not much of a driver but a real smack talker. Cool guy suggested showing up in the spyder and handing Mr. 996 his rearend a couple of times...

Nothing like having a fat middle aged soccer mommy in a fake porsche hand you your hat in front of your esteemed peer group, now is there?

Great stories. One of my favorite things to do it take my "just a VW kit car" and run circles around some of the pricks. And that's not to say they are all pricks... I have actually found that most are not. It only take a few.
One of my friends is a DE instructor for the Charlotte chapter and they have a few replicas out there. I also have several S. Florida customers who bring their speedsters to PCA events, and are very welcomed. That said, I parked with some PCA guys at Laguna a few years ago and you would have thought I was in a Pinto. I really think they were most upset that the little speedster drew more lookers than the GT2s/GT3s etc, etc...
FWIW: I joined the PCA on my Boxster VIN and info, but it never saw a PCA event. :)
I belong to the 356 Registry AND PCA. As most of you know I have a '62 356 Coupe along with my Vintage Speedster. I have never found any bad feelings or "uppity" attitudes with only the exception of 2 guys (buddies with each other) who just like to feel superior. If you go to any of the PCA and/or 356 events I suggest that you NOT pretend you have an original car but also DON'T make a big deal of your replica. Just enjoy the event and answer any questions honestly and without being a smart alec. That would go a long way to showing your class and the integrity of replica people in general.

Happy Trails,
Dusty and LMS

BTW, we are off the the Denver Concours de Elegance this weekend with the Porsche people this year (we usually show Ferraris at this show) and we are taking the Coupe and the Vintage.

I have a hard time understanding why some of you need to be excepted by the Porsche groups....YOU DON'T DRIVE PORSCHE'S.....you drive a frigging VW.....generally speaking, they don't like you, get over it..They may be nice to you, so they don't come off like an a-hole, but in most cases there is a hidden anamosity....
Come to think of it, if I went out and spent 150 large on an exotic and someone parked next to me with a replica of my car for 20, I would most likely not be nice to him...
In my case I live in an area with few sports car clubs and I am looking for like-minded folks to go cruising with. I'm not fortunate enough to have the quantity of groups, clubs, and activities that the SOCAL region does. Since I find this hobby much more fun when enjoyed along with other of similar mindset, I looked for a local group.

I wonder if any of them like Oban...
Lane,

The Beck can do better than 90 mph!!!! The only problem is...the Beck hubcaps may/will fly off to no were to be found. That one on I-40 west of Asheville belongs to me. If you find please send to me. Ole Ziggy thought it was funny to see the cap fly and roll down the road!!! But, he also thought driving the "Tail" was fun with the top down and SNOW on the ground! Ask him for the photos!
There a$$holes everywhere. Brother-in-law once introduced me to a fellow Porsche guy, I was driving my 66 912 at the time. When I told the guy I had a 912 his response was that those cars were shit and almost caused Porsche to go bankrupt cause they were so bad. His 928 on the other hand was a great Porsche car. I just walked away, no use telling him that the 912 outsold the 911 in early days and that his 928, although a good car, was actually frowned on by most Porsche folks. I got the impression that whether it be Porsches or toilet paper, whatever this guy had or used would be better than whatever you had. Period. You know the type, right?
Funny toilet paper should come up. I used to offhandedly refer to this thing as the S.B.P. -- the Sh*t-Brown Porsche. It was invisible to radar, colored like coffee and completely invisible to the naked eyes of police everywhere.
It was also $500.00 a month to maintain. We'll not be doing THAT anymore. A 912 would have made me much happier.

I scoff at the 90MPH 'limit', in my double fake Porsche, especially on 2 lane country roads.

Henry says I broke the warranty on my engine, heh heh heh!

I know I'm not alone in this sentiment (Howard, Rick, Leonard, Hoss...)

Also, the phrase, "He's off to a watery grave" belongs somewhere on my car, perhaps on a cool new badge for wassermeccanicas.
