That's OK, Cory. Most of the Marines coming back to B'fort have slightly longer hair, except, of course, for the Gunnery Sargeants - I think their hair's afraid to grow, period!

You missed a good one - especially after not really being there last year ;>)

WX was decent, especially for Carlisle and quite a bit warmer than you might remember.

Us "regulars" were quite surprised at the number of West Coasters who showed up, and Will Pierson and his Dad showing up topped the cake. I have GOT to find my way to a West Coast event soon.

I don't think I took any photos, leaving that to Chris, Teresa and others. BTW: Teresa worked her butt off getting all of the group shots "just so", and Chris was right out there with her, directing cars this way and that. I wandered over to them as they were planning the big shot on the hillside at Carlisle and after hearing of their plans (the entire group arrayed across the hill and standing on my truck to get an elevated shot or something like that) I thought it might be a good idea to let our Carlisle event manager, Ed Beciewski, know what they were planning (Carlisle usually frowns on unexpected stuff).

When he heard about it he got ALL excited and said that he would get a cherry-picker truck over there for a "real" arial shot. Sure enough, a few minutes (like, less than 5) later this golf cart comes zipping up, followed by a cherry picker and they took it from there.

BTW: The Speedster/Spyder Group was the ONLY group allowed to do a shot like that.

The greater-Carlisle countryside has gotten nothing but better looking every year. And GREEN!!! So green you wouldn't believe it (perhaps due to an extraordinarily wet Spring). The Friday trip to the AACA museum was along I81/I83 but was still pretty nice - especially the parts where we were looking sideways right into th hub of a truck wheel). Looooong line of cars headed down the highway and up-front parking at the museum. That "Brush" car in Lane's shots was a 1912 or something like that. They grouped cars together by decade produced and had a backdrop reminiscent of that decade. Very cool and someplace I would go back to readily.

Hope all is well over there. We all missed ya, especially one of the photographers, but we kept her pretty busy. I'll get your address and ship you Chris' DVD.

GORDON I THINK I SAW IN ON OF YOU POSTS YOU WERE IN PANAMA IN 68. WHEN I GOT BACK FROM VIETNAM IN OCT 67 THE MARINE CORP SENT ME TO PANAMA FOR THREE MONTHS DEC 67 JAN AND FEB 68 WE WERE TESTING THE M16'S FOR CONGRESS THAT WERE SUCH A PROBLEM WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT I WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES SELECTED TO GO BECAUSE WE WERE THE FIRST TO USE M16,s ANY WAY WERE YOU THERE THEN???
I saw the "4 wierd Amish women at out Saturday night banquet", too! Can't wait for the incriminating evidence.

Dan: I was in Honduras in 1967 and we made a trip to Panama (mostly up in the lake area in the central part of the isthmus - stayed in Cuipo, or something like that) during mid-summer. Rode there and back in one of those tiny Citroen bull-frog cars. It only had three cylinders, if I remember right, a "sun roof" that leaked worse than a Speedster (and it was raining a LOT then) and hydro-pneumatic suspension but we couldn't kill the beast!

The country in the center of Panama is gorgeous...

Hey Cory--Alice and I just returned home yesterday afternoon after extending our trip after Carlisle to Charlotte and NYC. (The NYC part was not in the Speedster but the rest was.)

I wanted to say how nice I thought the award you did for "Longest Drive" was. The original pen and ink drawing of a Speedster with the top down was just perfect and I will cherish it. You are a good guy to use your great drawing talent for the club by doing these awards
and I for one really appreciate you.

We missed you a lot, my friend.

Thanks---Jack
Carey, Andy and I drove the "Hunny" home, and then Andy got on his K100 (BMW motorcycle) and rode on to Terre Haute. I'm not sure it was as warm as 45 for the last hour or so. He got into Terre Haute about 11:15. By then he was wearing all his riding and rain gear and still suffering. I'm sure glad I got the heated grips for my R1150RT. But what the hay? he's a few years younger than I.
Cory; Thanks for the great artwork, I received the longest towing award and my nephew Graham received a special one for traveling the furthest; from England. He actually changed his vacation plans to attend Carlisle with my wife and I. We're still on the road but will be home tonight, I'll post more pictures when the road dust is washed away. ps: Theresa is a real hoot! She really knows how to organize a group of gear heads.

Hey Nolan--I did a mapquest search for distance from Ft Lauderdale to Carlisle vs. Hot Springs, AR to Carlisle and you are exactly 22 miles farther than I am. So next year if you drive and I don't have any detours over 22 miles you might get the Longest Drive award.

I did see a plaque on a Citroen 2CV on the Carlisle showfield that read "If you see this car on a trailer call the police because it has been stolen" I kinda relate to that.

---Jack
I may have to relinquish the longest drive to Carlisle next year. Not that I want to but circumstances maybe beyond my control. You see, June 25, 2010 will be Jan and my 50th wedding anniversary and we plan on an Alaskan Cruise to celebrate. Graham and Pat may join us. Two such outings so close together may be too much excitement for this old geezer since the 23rd of June will be my seventieth birthday and I may need a nap!

Carlisle authorities posted a BOLO (Be on the lookout) for four strange Amish women seen at a local restaurant. They are wanted for molesting a potato. They have been identified as Diane, aka, Misdirected Di, Sandy, aka, Shady Lady, Janet, aka, GPS Genie and Pat, aka, Potato Mama. Last seen they were winking at beardless men and muttering "Evil, Evil, when near anyone with a mustache. Shady Lady Sandy is known to clutch a bottle of honey but it is unknown of her intentions with it but was overheard asking where's Marty. Janet the GPS Genie was last seen trying to program Amishland into her GPS, Misdirected Di was overheard asking where to turn and Potato Mama was heard to say "We Have Arrived"!

This picture was taken while they were trying to attract young boys, please note their souls were not captured taking this photo.

Latest bulletin: Lynchburg Tennessee! Local police surrounded and captured GPS Genie while trying to shop lift a Jack Daniel's souvenir. It has been reported she was trying to hide a whisky vat in her handbag.

On another note the age old question of "Does a bear really s--t in the woods?" has finally been answered when a hidden camera caught a pair in action.

Graham is a very likeable "chap", what impressed me is at the Sunnyside dinner, he took the time to visit each and every table thanking all for the great time he and Pat at Carlisle when actually he was some of the entertainment.....what a great guy!

Seventy? What the hell do you drink down there in Florida?
Congrats to your upcoming 50th Anniversary! ~Alan
