Rick's Custom, while a good shop, is more of a body shop.

For engine stuff, I would start with George Nelson:

G & N Engineering

Does all mechanical aspects of the 356 Porsche. Excellent work and reputation. Key supporter of the club.

Owner: George Nelson

If he doesn't want to touch a Vw engine (andhe may not), then you have two options:  1. Find a local motorcycle machine shop or try Rainer Cooney:

Meister Restorations

Full restorations, all mechanical, paint, rust replacement, upholstery and fuel injection conversion. Rainer is possibly the most used business for TYP356ne members.

Owned by Rainer Cooney and Jerry Draco
1414 Suncook Valley Road,
Center Barnstead, NH 03225
Phone: (603) 776-3561

Bear in mind that there's nothing special about a Type 1 engine, but fewer and fewer shops have even seen one these days.  Those two shops up above would not be strangers to this work.  I'll try to find "Boston Bob Elliot" to see if the local VW/Dune Buggy guys have any other sources.
