I have 2 red lights on my dash (see accompanying photo) and I have no idea what they are for. The left one would seem to be an ignition light as it comes on when the key is turned and then goes off after the engine starts.Yesterday after a run down the coast I noticed that when I turned the engine off, the right hand light was on and stayed on - it is still on. It goes off after the key is turned on and is not on when the engine is running. Any ideas? I have a generator, not an alternator if that helps.

Thanks

Grab a copy of the Muir's Guide, from page 62 in the 19th edition :-

"if the red light should ever stay on when the ignition key has been shut off, then action in indicated right away! Your regulator is shot and is trying to make the generator (or alternator) run like a motor. This will ruin your battery charge....."

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Dom
When the one on the far left goes on, that old woman in Germany is using her microwave. The one just inboard of that goes on when the guy in Malibu flips the switch next to his cellar lights.

. . . don't worry about 'em. Just keep a close eye on the gauges, you'll be fine . . . .
