Hi gang,

It may be procrastination, indecision or confusion but I just cannot decide on a suitable red paint colour for my Speedster...

it is in a Guards Red colour now that has faded - not the best paint job in the first place.

So, what are your thoughts on a stand out red that really suits the Speedster...

I know this is a personal choice but would love to see some examples and thoughts.

I have looked at the GM Sting red and saw the new Mercedes red yesterday on a roadster. The Mercedes red is a darker red.

The darker red may - like the cream colour - be more traditional..

Any thoughts on reds?  What have you seen that looks good.

Also, any paint codes would be good as I can get my paint shop to mix up and spray a piece of spare panel.

Whoaaa - been a total turn around for me from my choice of cream back to red. But those who must be obeyed say red is the go..

thanks guys.

Realizing that manufacturers have established paint color codes for all the various shades of the color spectrum, is there any online tool that you can use to translate a RGB computer color code to a paint color code?  I know there are online tools that allows one to mix and match colors to find the color they want (https://kuler.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/) but not sure if I can take this three number sequence to a paintshop and get what I want.

Scott,

Accurate ink coding is based on mixtures of the reflective primaries Red, Blue, Yellow  The numerical coding on PMS (Pantone Matching System) color swatches are used to communicate to the printer...and he translates that into %'s of RBY resulting in a perfect match. (Black ink is also used to deepen, or to gray-up)

RGB being electronically arrived at is a totally different animal. What you see on your screen may not be identical to another screen, so there's no way nail it down as a 'reflective' color...close, but no Cupie-Doll!

Despite being called "Tornado Red" or "Climax Pink" OEM colors are also accurately measured % of 'reflective' pigments...More complicating than printing, but the same principal. Auto paint shops have color swatches of OEM colors, and a good shop (experienced) can duplicate a color swatch from the paint department of Home Depot!

According to builder Steve, my color is GM Torch Red.  Charles Gardner had an IM Roadster he believed to be Guards Red and wanted to have it touched up. Turns out that it was actually the Torch Red, as mine is.  Seeing Charles' car up close was what sold me on the color.  Whatever color is selected, I think it is one that is readily available for touch ups and resprays.
