My tail lights are red only and I'd like to change over to the red/yellow. As you probably know, the brake/ turn signal light up the yellow. Has anybody changed the sockets? Or do I need to get the correct sockets? I already have the red/yellow lens.

Any chance anybody has a set of  the bases of either type available for sale? (If the wrong type, I'd be willing to try changing the sockets on them.)

Thanks

Tac

Without precisely knowing what you have for light bases back there, the sockets are probably pressed in (and may be slightly crimped to hold them in place).

The bulb bases on mine were the same diameter so I just ended up swapping the sockets and ended up with tail-light and directional outboard (dual filament bulb) and stop light only inboard (single filament bulb).   The sockets are reasonably easy to swap.

A number of us on here have gone to the "Autozone" LED versions of 1156 and 1157 bulbs, mostly to get away from hot bulbs melting the plastic lenses, but they're brighter, too (always a good thing) and seem to work well for not a lot of $$$.  Some offered are shorter than others too, so figure out how much space you have and get a bulb that fits.

If you go LED, they all look mostly the same in the package but emit different color spectrums for clear, red and amber.  Get the LED color the same as the lens it will be shining through.  It's noted on the package what color it gives.

Red for red, Amber for Amber, etc.

+1 on this. I've been very happy with colored LED bulbs and like Gordon says, they're a lot cooler.
