Registering in Ohio

What are some of your experiences with this topic "Registering in Ohio"? Such as going through the "Salvage & Self-Assembled Vehicle Inspection" vs an old VW Vin # route? If a person does the VW thing, how does that affect insurance? I am not looking for legal advise just experiences.

I don't know about Ohio, but in California the VW VIN# is the easiest.
My VS Speedster is registered as a 69 VW.
It'd insured for $30,000 with Grundy.

Lester---how much is your premium?

My Ins co thinks mine is a '69 Bug and I'm a bit nervous about that.

I looked it up, and its insured for $35,000.
I told them that it was a 2007 Vintage Speedster, and they knew exactly what I had.
They list it on the Policy as a "Porsche Replicar"
I pay about $650 Per Year.

The self-assembled vehicle route was a breeze for me. Just make sure you have all your recipts well organized. Keep in mind the inspection is 10% safety and 90% confirming the parts were aquired legaly. Also some stations are booked up to 3 months so get on the schedule as soon as you can.

I'm insured through State Farm which was also gravy.

I recently registered my 79 Intermeccanica in Kansas. It had a Missouri title that listed it as a 79 VW, but now it is listed as an assembled vehicle. Insurance through Grundy was easy and cheap. Good luck.

in April 07 got a speedster from registered in OH...it was a AZ car...no problem. For my insurance I need to get an professional appraisel done on the car. I supplied him info from car on Ebay. He looks at the car talks with you then writes up an official document and charges $30. I supply engine, exterior and interior photo's plus his appraisel to my insurance agent. Got insurance for the valve of the appraisel.
