I saw them in the late 60's in Springfield Mass., or at least some team that looked like them. I think that sport evolved into "cage fighting" or "mixed martial arts" or WWF. Pretty confusing to watch if you don't know the "rules".

I used to watch them on TV at my girlfriend's house when i was in high school. Coach John Hall and little Ralphie Valladares on the jam....when my girlfriend's mother wasn't watching roller derby she was watching wrestling with classy Freddie Blassie...I was 'forced' to watch the Lawrence Welk show on Sundays also...the things we did for love....

I remember watching the Spade Cooley show and saw the great prank the crew played on Dick Lane. He was then doing commercials for Chevy. He was famous for slapping their fenders. This night, when reached the end of his pitch, he slapped the fender and it fell off.

Roy - We used to watch that show also. If I remember correctly, didn't Spade Coolley get sent to jail for killing his wife? Dick Lane hawked for Felix Chevrolet in L.A.

Jim, Spade was sent up for it and years later allowed out to perform at a Sheriffs benefit. After his part of the show, which apparently was very well received, he died back stage and not in prison. Google Dick Lane and read about his long and interesting career. I think he wound up as announcer at the Olympic.
